Saturday Skills Rides

Event Date

Repeats every week every Saturday until Sat Feb 28 2015 .
1/13/15 (All day)
We have back in our midst a former MTB racer--downhill, cross country, trials, the list goes on...Eric Heinrich. He's been racing cars for a number of years instead of bikes, but he is fit again and flicking his trusty Fat Chance rigid drop-bar machine on the local trails again. He would like to share his talents--see the copied text from him for a good description of his intentions. If you need help with technique, speed, endurance, check out his Saturday morning series that continues up to march, where the trails close to bikes for the muddy month. SC VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV the regular ride will be officially starting after Jan 1, up until March 1 when the trails are closed to bikes. When: Saturdays, 9 am, unless the trails are unrideably snowed in or it's raining. Where:Houghton's lot. Level: B+ All are welcome, but it's not an A pace ride and it's above a C level on skill. Length: 2 hours +/- There will always be a bail out option that will get someone back to the lot in 10 mins or less from wherever we are. The goal is to teach people the trails, keep moving, climb hills and get better at technical skills. The ride will stay in the Houghtons and Big Blue sections Question, comments? email me or find me on FB. If the planned ride is to be cancelled I will email here and post on my FB wall by 7:30 that morning. Eric Heinrich

GB NEMBA Monday Night Practice Your Technique Ride

Event Date

Repeats every week every Monday until Mon Aug 27 2018 .
5/7/18 5:45pm

Join us on Mondays for a Practice Your Technique (PYT) ride at various locations around our region.

Free post-ride pizza courtesy of JRA Cycles.

Following a successful pilot in 2013, the weekly GBNEMBA PYT ride (formerly at the Fells on Wednesdays) now moves to varios locations on Monday nights. And, thanks to the very kind sponsorship of JRA Cycles, we will be having pizza delivered for immediate post-ride consumption!

Format: PYT = Practice Your Technique. The format is all about building MTB skills: bike handling, body position, sessioning on trail features, braking, climbing, shifting, etc. Russell Mill has a pump track which will be utilized as well. The ride will be led by GB Ride Guides, is no-drop and could best be thought of as "ride, practice a skill, ride some more, practice a skill, etc."

The PYT rides have something for all riders of all abilities and levels. Come out and learn something new or get better at something you are rusty on - and maybe meet some fellow riders to ride with in the future. This is a great way to take your skills up a notch!

What to bring:
1. Mountain bike
2. Helmet (required)
3. Water
4. You!

Check this Facebook Page for weekly updates.

Ride meeting time is 5:45PM.  Please be ready to ride by 6:00PM. Read more about GB NEMBA Monday Night Practice Your Technique Ride

Remember to always be an ambassador for our sport! Best practices include:
  • Slow down when you see other riders, hikers, or animals.
  • Pass other trail users at about their speed - be courteous and talk to them
  • Ride through the center of a mud patch or puddle, NOT around it.
  • Ride over an obstacle, NOT around it.
  • If you can't ride over an obstacle, get off and walk it - stay on the trail.
  • Do not make new routes or trails.
  • Do not build stunts.
  • Do not skid, spin out, or fishtail - uphill nor downhill.
  • Always offer to yield the right of way.
  • Be friendly - say hi to other trail users!
