Holiday Toy Drives

Every year several NEMBA chapters run toy drives to benefit disadvantaged kids during the holiday season.

I’d like to suggest that this year all NEMBA chapters do that.

If your chapter is planning to do one, send me the details of your event as soon as possible so that we can help publicize it.

For those chapters that haven’t done one before, but might want to, well, it’s easy.

Here’s what do. Pick a date and location for your Toy Drive.

Have a couple of pickups there because you will be surprised at how many toys you collect.

Enlist enough ride leaders so that you can take everyone out for a fun ride. Or mark an arrowed loop or loops.

Anyone going on the ride needs to bring one or more unwrapped toys.

Many NEMBA chapters just donate them to a local church or civic group that’s having a toy drive.

In my experience, most donated toys are for young children, and few are appropriate for teens. So, you might want to gear your donations towards them.

The most well-known toy drive is the US Marines’ “Toys for Tots” program. Click on this link to learn more about it. Often the USMC will have a uniformed soldier present to collect the toys.

Some NEMBA chapters buy one or more kids bikes and add them to the pile.

Other NEMBA chapters have holiday food drives to benefit their local food bank. That’s great too!

Let’s make lots of kids smile this holiday season.

Cape Cod NEMBA is the first one on the list.
