This year Sugarloaf resort, Carrabassett Region NEMBA and Maine Huts and Trails have teamed up to host a Fat Tire Festival to support the ever growing popularity of biking in the region and the excitement of the on-snow fat tire riding movement. The highlight of this Fat Tire Festival will be an on-snow race that will feature a timed climb up mountain trails to the top of a specially prepared banked slalom course. Riders will then make a timed descent through a course with high banked turns and other features back to the base area. Awards will be given in several divisions to the fastest climber and descender as well as to the racer with the fastest combined time.

With Sugarloaf, CR NEMBA and Maine Huts and Trails teaming up for this event, the horsepower of the bike movement in Carrabassett Valley is building. This unique event is the first of its kind on Sugarloaf’s slopes, so come enjoy the weekend of Spring Skiing, Fat Tire biking and fun.

In conjunction with the downhill race, Fat Tire retailers will be set-up on the Beach from 9:00 am- 3:00 pm on Saturday to offer Fat Tire bike demo rides to give folks the chance to try out this new style of biking for themselves! Guests can either choose to try the Fat Tire bikes right around the village, or for the more determined, a cross-country bike trail leading to the Outdoor Center will also be available. Shuttle service will be provided from the Outdoor Center back to the village at no charge.

Demo riders have two options for their “test drive:”
1. Village riding: To give the bikes a quick test, the Sugarloaf village, lower trails and Maine Street areas are all open to riding. 20 minute timeframe.
2. Cross Country Trail Ride to Outdoor Center: More experienced riders may take a guided ride from the Beach, down cross country bike trails to the Outdoor Center, where riders and bikes will be returned to the Beach via a shuttle bus service, at no charge. Up to 1 hour timeframe.

Each guest will need to leave a CC at the demo tent/retail shop, for collateral, to try out each bike. A valid ID will be required for CC collateral. The last demos will be signed out no later than 2:00 pm, to ensure that all are returned before close at 3:00 pm.
