Ames Nowell State Park Bridge Build
After nearly three years of diligence, the day has finally come to build a NEMBA bridge in Ames Nowell State Park. 84 Lumber in Holbrook donated over $1,000 of lumber and materials for this nearly 100' long, 3' wide multi-use bridge in the western side of the park. This bridge clears a wetland section of a newly recognized trail by the DCR. We need a small army of volunteers to walk the 175 pieces of lumber to the build site (less than a 5 minute walk), build the foundation and stringers, and secure the treads. 30 - 40 volunteers should make short work for everyone. Please join this historic event in Ames Nowell State Park.
Schedule Saturday April 27th
8:45-9AM: Registration, water, coffee, donuts
9-9:15AM: Briefing, Team Setup
9:15AM-Noon: Bridge Build
After build: Pizza!
Attire: Please wear appropriate footwear for hiking to the site and working in a wet area (no open toe shoes). Work gloves recommended.
Tools: Yourself! Also if you have a cordless impact driver or drill (spare batteries a plus) and T25 star bits those will be very useful in the build.
Parking: Gables Condominiums, 200 Hampton Way, Abington. Park in the club house parking on Tamarack Lane within the Condo complex and walk down the hill to condo 901 near the park boundary at the power lines. Look for the NEMBA tent. If you have any problems with finding legitimate parking, please look for volunteers to direct you or call 781 718 9586 and we can arrange a shuttle to pick you up from an overflow parking area.
You do not have to be a member of NEMBA to help out. You only have to love Ames Nowell's trails.
Save time by signing NEMBA's Annual Trail Care Waiver ahead of time.
