NEMBA Racing!

Note: Applications are no longer being taken for the 2010 season

Become Part of our MTB race team, NEMBA Racing

New for this season is NEMBA Racing, a grassroots race program designed to allow NEMBA members to take part in regional races riding for Team NEMBA Racing.  The goal is simple: to have a presence in the New England race scene and perform educational outreach to the racing community.  Are you a NEMBA member interested in racing and becoming part of a fun community of casual and serious racers?  Do you want to represent NEMBA at either the Root 66 and/or EFTA series, or even some of the 12 and 24 Hours races in New England?  The team will be aligned with NEMBA’s “Ride the Trails ~ Save the Trails“ mission, and seek to spread this message to the racing community.  NEMBA Racing will have a tent at most of the events where team members can congregate, get support, and perhaps even share some post-race food and drink.

The goal for 2010 is to field a team of 20-30 members from all of NEMBA’s chapters.    Art Roti, an expert-level racer with last year’s GT/NEMBA Team, has offered to be the team manager and help work on various sponsorship opportunities.

What will NEMBA Racing Racers get from the Team?

Since this is the first year NEMBA is creating a race team, we haven’t lined up a long list of sponsors.  This will be ongoing and we will try to provide as many “perks” as we can over time.  Besides the complimentary jersey, we will be seeking “pro deals” on bicycles, helmets, tires, tools and supplies.  However, if you’re looking to join to get a bunch of free stuff, better move on – NEMBA Racing is about the race, having fun, being part of a community of racers, and doing out reach to the racing community.

How do I join NEMBA Racing?

Any NEMBA member may send in their request to join the team.  The leaders of NEMBA’s chapters may recommend racers they believe will be good ambassadors for our organization.  We are looking for racers in all categories, both male and female.

All NEMBA Racing racers will be provided with a complimentary NEMBA Racing race jersey.  They will make a $70 deposit on the jersey which will be returned after participating in four (4) EFTA or Root 66 races. While we may try to find a sponsor to defray the cost of race fees, for 2010 racers will be responsible for these costs. All NEMBA Racing racers must be willing to be good ambassadors of NEMBA, both on and off the race course, and be willing to engage and educate the race community at the races.

NEMBA Racing racers will also write about their races and what they’ve accomplished on NEMBA’s Forum and SingleTracks.  Racers are also encouraged to blog about their racing and training experiences.
