For the protection and enjoyment of the Reservation, visitors shall comply with the regulations listed below.
- Reservation closes at sunset. Entering or remaining on the property after that time is
prohibited.
- Open fires are prohibited. Use of grills and charcoal or fuel stoves requires a permit
and is allowed in designated areas only.
- No person shall possess or consume any alcoholic beverage in any area of the
reservation, including the parking areas.
- Littering is prohibited. Place all trash in barrels. Dumping garbage or other materials
within the reservation or into waters is prohibited.
- Disturbing, removing, defacing, cutting or otherwise causing damage to a natural
feature, historic or prehistoric artifact, sign, poster, barrier, building, or other
property on the reservation is prohibited.
- Digging and cutting or removing vegetation is prohibited unless authorized by MDC
personnel. Metal detectors are prohibited.
- All "off road" motorized recreational vehicles such as dune buggies, campers,
trail bikes, motorcycles, minibikes, mopeds, snowmobiles, and ATVs (all terrain vehicles)
are prohibited in MDC parks and reservations.
- Motorized vehicles other than "off road" recreational vehicles may use only
designated paved roads or other areas authorized for use by the MDC.
- Swimming is prohibited in all waterways, lakes, ponds, and reservoirs.
- Pets are permitted only when controlled by a leash not exceeding seven feet.
- Camping is prohibited.
- Bicyclists, skate boarders and roller skaters will not exceed five m.p.h. and must give
right of way to pedestrians.
- The use of bicycles shall be permitted only in areas designated or authorized for such
use by the MDC.
- Boating is prohibited.
- Hunting, trapping, and the possession or discharge of any rifle, shotgun, air rifle, bow
& arrow, handgun, or explosive is prohibited.
- Sporting activities such as fishing, ball playing, and skiing are permitted at times and
in areas designated for such activities by signs or by reservation personnel.
- Groups of 25 or more require a day use permit available by contacting the MDC.
- Conduct and activities unreasonably disruptive, and which infringe on someones
right to be undisturbed, are prohibited.
- All persons shall comply with the directions of reservation personnel and State Police
officers in observing and obeying these regulations.
Middlesex Fells Reservation is managed for the public by the Metropolitan District Commission. Visitors are welcome with the understanding that they shall comply with the above regulations. Any violations of these regulations may result in arrest and be punishable by a fine according to M.G.L. c. 92, §
