NW CT NEMBA Thursday Ride

Event Date

5/19/16 5:30pm
We were completely blown away by the turn out at last Thursday's Ride After Work. That's probably the first time we've ever had one of these intermediate rides with so many people that we had to split up into three groups! We're going to be ready this week with three planned groups: Group A will be 6-7 miles; Group 2 will be 9-10 miles; and Group X will be 11-12+ miles. If you know ahead of time which group you'd like to ride in that will help get us out of the parking lot faster. As always this is an intermediate and up, no-drop ride. There will be a good mix of abilities on these rides, so don't let the "intermediate" label scare you off! This week we'll be starting at the Nassahegon Soccer Fields on PunchBrook Rd in Burlington. If you know you're going to make it, let us know and we'll wait for you. The weather looks good, so come on out and join us for a fun ride! NW CT NEMBA Harwinton Trail Work Day

Date

5/14/16 9:00am to 1:00pm

Tod will be leading a trail work day for NW CT NEMBA in Harwinton on May 14th. The focus of this work day is to extend the trail system started last year. There is a lot to do, so everyone who can make it out to help will be greatly appreciated! The day will begin at the cul-de-sac on the southern end of the Harwinton sports fields, at 9am. If you're unfamiliar with the area you can get to the sports fields by turning onto Bentley Drive off of route 118 in Harwinton. Follow Bentley Drive all the way past the town hall, where you'll see the sports fields. We'll be meeting at the other end, so drive on through until you reach the cul-de-sac. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You should bring water, work gloves, bug spray, and a snack. If you have a Rake, Pruners, Rogue Hoe, McLeod, Pick Mattock, or any other hand tools suitable for building trails you are welcome to bring those as well. NW CT NEMBA Ride

Event Date

Scott and I will be getting a jump on the weekly Thursday rides this week. We'll be meeting at the soccer fields at around 5:15 with plans to get rolling around 5:30. The pace and distance will depend on who comes out. My guess is there's several others, like me, who aren't quite in "intermediate" level shape yet this season. If that's the case we can have a mellower ride, or split into 2 rides. I'm looking to ride around 10 miles, but we'll see how it plays out. As always, this is a no drop ride, we're here to have fun! We're more interested in getting people out to ride, than we are putting labels and restrictions, just do it! You do not have to be a NEMBA member to join our rides. The start time is somewhat flexible. I'm trying to make the most of the available day light, but we can start later if needed. Just let us know if you're coming for sure and we'll wait for you. NW CT NEMBA Burlington Trail Work Day

Date

5/21/16 9:00am

We will be continuing our work on the reroute at the bottom of the Bridges trail.  Our goal for this work day is to finish up this trail, so we will need all the help we can get! The day will begin at the cul-de-sac on the western side of GW Turnpike, at 9am. Parking at this location is somewhat limited, if enough people show up some shuttling to the near by soccer fields parking lot may be required. Please don't block the road, or green forest access gate when you park. The work site is a short walk down old GW Turnpike, past the gate. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You should bring water, work gloves, bug spray, and a snack. If you have a Rogue Hoe, McLeod, Pick Mattock, or any other hand tools suitable for benching trails you are welcome to bring those as well.
