Greater Portland NEMBA News - March 2014

Sunday, March 2, 2014

The GP NEMBA executive board met in January and February to discuss plans for the 2014 season. We are very excited about the upcoming events planned for this year.

We'll kick off the season with a chapter meeting and social on April 10th @ 6pm @ Rivalries ( in Portland. To start the evening the board will share plans for the year and get feedback from the membership at large. Please try to get there a little early so we can start promptly at 6pm. Following the meeting there will be free appetizers provided by GP NEMBA, opportunities to mix and mingle with other local riders and swag to give away donated from many of our great local shops. There will be another chapter meeting and social in October. Hope to see you there!

We're planning trail improvements and expansion this year in Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Yarmouth & Gorham. GP NEMBA President Jim Tasse and former president Mitch Wacksman continue to work hard with the Conservation Commission in Cape Elizabeth protecting and maintaining existing trails and planning for future expansion. Trail expansion on the lot adjacent to Winnick Woods will continue in 2014 so look for the next trail work day this spring.

Caleb Hemphill has helped to lead an explosion of single track in Falmouth and more is planned for 2014, in particular a new connector between Lowell Preserve and Blackstrap Rd. Falmouth continues to rock!

The newest member of the GP NEMBA board, Robert Lavoie with Gorham's Parks and Conservation Commission, has been helping to lay the ground work for the return of mountain bike trails in Gorham. The town has applied for a Recreational Trails Program grant to help pay for trail restoration and expansion. Contact GP NEMBA or Gorham town hall for more info.

With the help of GP NEMBA VP Andrew Favreau the West Side Trail in Yarmouth became a legit MTB destination in 2013 with more improvements and growth expected in 2014. You can follow the project on Facebook, or join the WST mailing list,

Pat Hackleman and the staff at Gear Works Productions (hosts of The 12 Hours of Bradbury) are planning an exciting MTB ride series for 2014 in partnership with GP NEMBA and local businesses. The rides will start and end at various locations with fun post ride socializing! Follow the Gear Works calendar of events for the ride dates, times and details (
