REDBONES ANNUAL BIKE PARTY TURNS TWELVE
OUT FROM UNDERBONES AND ONTO THE STREET

POSTPONED -- NEW Date: Monday, May 19th

Somerville, MA -- On Monday, May 19, cyclists hit the streets to celebrate Bike to Work Week, kicked off at Redbones by the 12th Annual Bike Party and Benefit for Mass Bike and New England Mountain Bike Association.  Money is raised through entry and raffle ticket sales and the generous donations of sponsors.  Again this year, Alternative Needs Transportation joins Redbones as lead cosponsor with the donation of a custom cargo bike valued at over $3,000.  Party details at www.redbones.com.

Redbones first bike party attracted a group of about 50 dedicated cyclists to Underbones.  A decade later, hundreds now attend and the party has moved outside to Chester Street in front of the restaurant.  Party time is 5 - 9 pm, the raffle drawing is at 7:30.  Live music is provided by the SAPS: The 2nd Line Social Aid & Pleasure Society Brass Band -we aim to please if the cause is true and the time is right.

The $15.00 entry cost is payable at the event and includes bicycle valet parking, a Redbones sandwich (meat or vegetarian) with fixin’s, a soft drink or Harpoon beer, and a raffle ticket.  Additional raffle tickets are 1 for $2.00 and 3 for $5.00.  Proceeds will be divided between two bicycle advocacy groups:   Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition (www.MassBike.org) and the New England Mountain Bike Association (www.NEMBA.org).

The increasing generosity of sponsor donations bumps up raffle ticket sales every year including 2007, when $9,000 was raised and divided equally by MassBike and NEMBA.  Among the sponsors this year are Ace & Belmont Wheelworks, Bikes Not Bombs, Boston Pedi Cab, The Boston Phoenix, Broadway Bicycle School, Ciclismo Classico, Earth, Wind & Rider, Geekhouse Bikes, Harpoon Brewery, Independent Fabrications, Landry’s Bicycles, Paramount Bicycle Repair, Ski Market, Seven Cycles, Team Luna Chicks, Urban AdvenTours.  The raffle drawing starts at 7:30 and winners must be present to collect their prizes.

Redbones first bike party, in May of 1997, was held in tandem with the restaurant’s introduction of Bicycle Valet Parking.  The innovative parking program put Redbones at the hub of the biking community.  It also showed Redbones early commitment to preserving the neighborhood and the environment by lowering the number of cars driving to Davis Square.  Free bicycle valet parking is still available to cyclists riding to Davis Square regardless of their destination.

Redbones is open daily serving traditional real pit barbecue for lunch, dinner, Sunday Brunch and late night dining.  Catering, take out and delivery available.  Information at www.redbones.com and 617.628.2200.
