Riding Smart During Hunting Season

Hunting season is in full swing in New England right now, which means you should be careful out there. Some tips:

• Be especially cautious during shotgun and rifle (deer) season.
• Try not to ride in the early morning hours -- this is when many hunters are in the woods
• Wear a bell
• Wear bright colored clothing or a hunter orange vest. The latter is required by law in Rhode Island.
• Try to find places or times where hunting is prohibited. (e.g., Maine and Mass. prohibits hunting on Sundays).
• Carry a cell phone and report poachers to the local police.
