Any Riding in MA?

Are any of the trails out there in MA ridable? If cold weather would set in we'd be OK here in the North-west metro area.

If you don't mind an hour's drive, Otis AFB is well worth the trip this time of year. Lots of well drained, fast, hard packed trails that wind through pine forests with some areas of decent technical. Not sandy at all. My friends and I ride there pretty much exclusively until after the spring thaw dries up and the inland trails are ready for the abuse.

Did the Cape get spared from the snow? I was assuming that Otis and T.o.T. got a mess of white stuff. Actually heard that Wompi was pretty good as well.

There's too much snow & the ground's not frozen yet, so riding is pretty much restricted to fireroads (if you're up for a killer workout).

Bill Boles did his anual New Years day ride in Yarmouth and the word is little to no snow on the cape, Wompi had about 2" and it was packed well on the mt bike loop. I think that with a hard freeze the snow on the trails around my house (Stow MA) would be solid enough to ride. Latest weather report has more snow coming Fri.

The Cape usually gets spared from significant snowfall accumulation. And even when they do get an inch or two, it often melts faster there. And the best thing about Otis is the outstanding drainage. We recently went there on a Sunday following a Friday when it poured buckets all day. We encountered one, count it, one puddle, the whole ride. A friend of mine rode Otis this weekend and he said it was fine, as usual. I've also been told that the Trail of Tears is also usually in good shape following rain or snow.

I was kind of surprised that Boles had the New Years ride in Yarmouth, because Otis is closer and the trails are consistently pristine.

I have talked with people who have assumed that Cape riding would be too sandy, so they never bothered. I'm here to tell you that Otis is a gem. Definitely worth checking out. One thing worth noting, one can get lost there pretty easily. There are lots of crisscrossing trails, and they all pretty much snake through the entire area. You might be best served hooking up with anyone who knows the trails.

We (mixed group of intermediate riders who are out to have fun and in no rush to cover as much ground as possible) typically ride there on Sundays at 9:00. I know that there is a faster group that starts at around 8:00. There are a couple of trail heads. E-mail me if you need directions.

Anyone else in CT interested? We could drive together. I have room in my Minivan for multiple bikes/people in that order.
