West Nile Virus / Eastern Equine Encephalitis Alert! The risk level has gone up to critical (the highest) in Belchertown and high in Amherst. No human cases yet but 2 horses died in Belchertown last week, and mosquitoes in Amherst tested positive for EEE. Check out the Mass.gov risk assessment map for levels in your area.

Even if you're not in a high-risk area be overly cautious to avoid mosquito bites - cover as much skin as possible, use an effective insect repellent and limit time outdoors between dusk and dawn. EEE has no treatment and a 50% fatality rate in humans.
