I don't know exactly where you will be in CT , but a couple of alternatives that are easier to follow is Trout Brook in Easton/Redding and Waldo in Southbury. Waldo has a trail that is mostly smooth , about 5 miles worth plus a dirt road. Again, if you need a guide, I be glad to show you and your wife around as long as the trails dry up a bit after the snow we had yesterday.
