32x22, that seems to be a great gear (if you only use one) for wendell. I know the SSers in the crew ride anything from 32x19 up to 32x22. BUt then again, everyone is different, the way the loops are laid out, there are plenty of 'smooth for wendell' climbs, a strong rider would do fine on most stuff with a taller gear, I'd say, whatever is your usual, enjoyable set-up-Stick with it!
My fore fathers spun around on fire roads and limited single track at Wendell (I remember the Ross races, too), and even they had gears!

About 6 years ago, I rode a steel 26er SSer (32x18) as my only ride, and I missed gears more than suspension at wendell. Actually, I think a rigid big wheeled bike ain't such a bad choice for Wendell.
Be sure not to miss the Hero loop, as that is terrain where Wendell really earns it's rep.
