PK in MB ACTION (and some of our Trails too)
Hey Hey hey, I just downloaded my digital Oct. issue of MB ACTION--to find a feature story on "7 must do New England rides" (actually the title said 6 but they covered seven and found the opening remarks and guiding points made by our own fearless leader...PK! In fact it's billed as NEMBA"S PICKS (I DON"T REMEMBER being asked) to singletrack paradise.
Oh-the article blows-really. Only one Massachusetts ride made the list (Vietnam-all 1200 acres), Huntington in CT was included (only 800 acres--most of which is POND--I've ridden there a bunch, nice little place--but a featured TOP 6 area for SINGLETRACK PARADISE???...over even other connecticut luminary places like Case Mountain, Cockaponset, Guilford Woods, Trumbull (old mine parrk) to name a few???!? NONSENSE!
Kingdom Trails made the list--which is fair enough it is pretty great. (probably the only place those editorial clowns in southern cal have heard of--though they did consult pk it seems). Still, with NEMBA featured so heavily in the intro it'd be nice for PK to plump for some NEMBA built/ maintained areas. KT has it's own leadership, own crew, own revenue source (ala fees) and, face it kingdom trails gets plenty of notice any time any magazine editor deigns to turn their focus east of Denver.
Attitash Mountain made it (I'm sure the ASC greased a few palms and they figured Mt. Snow already gets enough press). BTW any vistor from afar who comes to sample 'real new england riding' and hits one of our lame little ski areas is a knucklehead! Again-I'd think that the head of NEMBA in a national spot light might do a little more to steer the editors attention away from commercial-corporate ski area and towards the plentiful, public singletrack his organization has worked so hard to build and maintain--again, the ASC has it's own marketing resources-they don't need plugs from NEMBA!
NH Also got Bear Brook on the list, Maine scored with Bradbury and Mt Agementicus (again all fine places-no problems here).
RI got shut out
I'm sorry-I'm always tickled when I see any press for New England riding (something we're all heavily invested in) but as usual bitterly disappointed when I see the results in print---I think that all of the Berkshires, Pioneer valley and heck, the Cape rate over Attitash and Huntington (not to mentioned the above CT places I noted). There's a heck of lot more great riding in Vermont than Just kingdom trails-- Hell, why only seven?!?
but of course to really know something about NE riding you'd have to do more than peruse some old lame copy of "Where to Ride in New England" guide book and consult some really knowledgeable local...like pk....which they did...hmmmm..Hey, Man? What Happened? I don't think this is truly NEMBA"S SINGLETRACK PARADISE PICK's-not even a decent sampler really. To be fair-I just noticed the italicized notation on the article that these are 'Philip Keyes favorites" c'mon PK, Really? What Gives?
Grumble.

Well, my friend, in this world there are two types of men, those with loaded guns, and those who dig. So Dig!
