Default What happens if they close Otis AFB???

Otis made the "close" list released today. The trails there have been helped in many ways by enthusiast servicemen. I wonder what will happen if the local support they provide goes away?

Those trails are unique, and lots of fun. I sure hope there's not a housing tract in their future. The land must be worth a fortune, and would be attractive to both the Fed and the State for the revenue it would bring.

I read a report a few days ago how Bush wants to turn some old military bases into oil refining facilities.

    coincidence? I think not!

Yeah, but he's a mtb-er so oil refineries are probably just a cover so he can do some great riding. That's where he was when that plane came too close the other day. I'm sure he's heard of Otis.

Or it could be the other way around, he is using the mtb to scope out prospective spots to drill

Anyone know if Portsmouth Navy Yard was on the list of closures?

Doesn't a portion of OTIS sit on, or near, the Cape's aquifir (sp?) ? If so I doubt they'll be too much building going on above a major source of fresh water. I thought I read somewhere the Gov't had to cleanup some of the area due to pollution concerns. Could be totally wrong though.

yeah, but if you can put a military base there, you can put anything there. The pollution has never been cleaned up:

I won't miss Otis (the military base). That place has been a ghost town for years. What should be done of the place? Maybe make it replace Hyannis airport. The runway is huge, it's a backup for a space shuttle landing (seriously). More homes to drive down the cost of cape cod housing? Six Flags Cape Cod? Golf course? A new community based on self sufficient non-oil energy as an example of future towns relying solely on solar and wind energy?

Maybe the ATV community should buy it. It's already polluted.

How about that wind farm that Senator Kennedy doesn't want ruining his ocean view?
