What is the plan for 2011? Seems like 2010 got started too late and it ended up that the team really didn't get any team benefits per se because of it. Would like to be on the team next year but it would be nice to see some sponsorship deals from a shop or two, etc.

Had an OK race in Websterville (or is it Graniteville) Vermont today. If my chain guard hadn't been so adept at capturing and locking up the chain, it would have been infinitely better, still middle of the pack isn't so bad given the amount I've not been riding this summer.

Dan had a pretty good race as well in the Cat 3s.

Lots of PV folk around today with a mix of results - a couple of DNFs, a couple of podiums and the rest of us somewhere in the middle of the fields.

If you haven't done this race before (only its second year) I highly recommend it. Well run, free meal and glass of brew for all finishers, thanks to the sponsors for that.

I've met trail & recreational riders who have harsh opinions about the world of bike racing. Even though they love to ride, they look down on racing as an egoistic pursuit. I love to compete and believe that it has made me a far better rider. Granted I do have some things to prove in the races and my reasons are based on personal history. Pondering this idea I started to ask others why they raced and it turns out that most everyone has personal reasons. Some of these reasons are fascinating. This conversation lead me to write a blog post about how a lot of beginners race simply for the sake of friendship. The replies suggest that some people want to talk about what drives them, so here is your opportunity.

The question is, "Why do you race?"

We are a group of 7 guys (MA/NH), setup into two 4 man sport teams.

Our group consists of a few repeat 24hr's, a few bike OCD's, and a few good sports.

Casual atmosphere, yet competitive.

Saturday is the 2nd Annual Root 66 Norcross Scurry Mountain Bike Race at the Boy Scout Reservation in Ashford, CT. This is a great course with a fair amount of gradual climbing, twisting single track, and challenging rock wall crossings.

The course is a 5.85 mile loop that all categories will ride. 1 lap for First Timers, 2 laps for CAT 3, 3 laps for CAT 2, and 4 laps for CAT 1 and Pro.

This race is hosted by The June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation and supported by Nerac Earth Cycling.

There will be food and drink for purchase in the registration building (in the lodge) and hopefully this year we won't need the fireplace but last year we were glad to have it!

The weather is actually looking perfect for Saturday so come out and race!
