While wrenching the PMC last weekend, they handed out cans of Finish Line Citrus Degreaser. I had never used it before and I was really impressed. Brought home what was left in the can and used it on filthy chains-even more impressed.

My question has to do with dispensing. This stuff was in an aerosol can-environmentally bad and expensive. They sell the stuff in straight liquid in 20 oz bottles or GALLONS! Still expensive but I suspect it would go much further. So, my question is whether anybody has come up with a way to use something like this in a rechargeable/refillable can? I was thinking something with a secure screw top lid that you could pressurize with a CO2 cartridge. Some how I doubt the lawyers would let something like that on the market but maybe? (I have an image of the top, improperly installed, blowing off and taking an eye out or something equally cool) Anybody?

Same subject, although the Finish line stuff is really good, does anybody have a comparison of it to, say Citri-solve or some other citrus base cleaner? If you used that stuff straight in a squirt bottle would it do the same job? I am thinking no.

Thanks

Chris

I am still running my original Kendas that came with my C'Dale F3 Hardtail. I probably got a couple of hundred mixed miles on the tires. The last couple of rides in these New England drought conditions, I have been noticing a definite lack of grip, especially turning in loose soil at decent speed or going down hill. As a result I have had a couple of good spills.

So what am I doing wrong? Should I invest in some new tires, if so what would you recommend? Or, I am running about 25-30lbs pressure, should I go higher or lower? One person I ride with recommended higher pressure. I am a relative newbie and have lonly been doing this about a year. Thanks,

Hey!

So, I was wrenching for the PMC at the Saturday lunch stop last weekend and had one customer with a problem I have never seen or heard of before. Thought I would toss it out.

This guy came in (with a gorgeous Bilenky touring bike: campy, white industry disc wheels, brooks saddle...), claiming that his rear Avid BB7 disc brake was self-tightening and locking up on him! He said that after about 10-15 miles it would have tightened to the point that he had no motion in the brake lever and the wheel literally skidded him to a stop. He dismounted, loosened the outer red adjusting knob and that released the brake and returned his lever travel. Off he would go until it happened again. Finally he stopped using the rear brake! (road bike, smooth pavement, front disc, why would you need the rear brake anyway, but I digress!).

I showed him that the inner pad was actually pushed up against the rotor a bit and adjusted that out for him so that the rotor was now centered. There did not seem to be ANYTHING wrong with this brake caliper. The adjustment detents were working fine with a solid click each time you rotated it. That rotated smoothly, with the arm as you applied the brake. I saw no reason why it would tighten up on it's own.

The rotor was true but as it was rubbing I have no doubt it was getting hotter than hot. He said he touched it and got burned. (don't touch your rotors anyway, dude, it gets finger grease on them...)

So, anybody experienced anything like this? I sent the poor guy on his way with both brakes centered and suggested he only use the front. Felt bad I couldn't fix it for real!

Thanks!

Is anybody familiar with the 2002 ( I think) Specialized Rockhopper A1 Comp FSRxc? I recently acquired one as a "parts bike". But, after doing a serious inspection, I decided to fix it up. The derailleur hanger is missing from it and the one that I already have { Specialized part number 4271} doesn't fit. If anyone knows, which is the proper one for this bike (Specialized or an equivalent)?

Hey guys,

During the rebuild of my rear suspension, an alloy spacer got lost and my bike is rendered useless without it. I couldn't find a place online to get one, so I though maybe someone has one at home from a broken frame or leftover from a frame rebuild.

The specification is:
Alloy spacer
Outer diameter 19mm
Inner diameter 15mm
Width 2mm

I need just 1 piece.

The spacer looks like the one in the picture below, it's just a bit larger.

I will call Specialized tomorrow to see whether they can provide it but I'm not very hopeful.

Thanks!
