Hey guys

I have been making a special mountain bike map for wompatuck state park. I have ridden many of the trails but I still need help with the map. The difficulty ratings are from my point of view, and the trail names I made up and I like, but if any of you could tell me what difficulty ratings other trails should be, that would be great. Also, if one of the trails I've rated is far from the rating it should be, please let me know what to change it to. These trail ratings are by a wompy standard (or at least, I'm trying to make it that way). I'm not the most experienced mountain biker either so go easy on me. Also, constructive criticism would be useful, but please don't post if you simply hate the map.

EDIT: There's a trail on the list of names called the woodpecker trail, and its number 12. It isn't on the map yet. Don't look for it.

Anyway, here's the map file. Hopefully it will be done before the winter.

Adding that technical trail really compliments the trails which were already a lot of fun. I'm surprised I don't see a lot more chit chat about FFD. If you haven't been there yet be sure to add it to your must ride list!

OK, so maybe I am just stupid that this has taken so long but I figured I would share today's revelation from my ride at Wompy with others who may be slower than myself!

So, I am an old fart. I have crappy vision and regularly wear graded lenses: distance script at the top, reading at the bottom. I have never been a super mtb rider but I really struggled over technical rocky terrain-especially at speed.

For skiing I bought a set of just-distance clear lens glasses that would fit in goggles. Earlier this summer I found they made a huge difference hiking in terms of seeing, IN FOCUS, where I was about to put my foot.

I haven't been on the mtb in a while. Today I wore those glasses and found myself flying over and through terrain that would have had me walking (or at least dabbing) in the past. I am talking baby heads, root gardens, stonewalls and the like. It was amazing!

The bottom line is that forever I have NOT had my peripheral vision to help me. As I look down the trail everything at my wheel was blurry. So, when it gets ugly, despite my best effort to keep looking down the trail, I am sure I was lowering my head and doing the target fixation thing so the rocks stayed in focus. Today I was able to just keep scanning down trail and let the peripheral vision deal with stuff! Makes me feel like a cripple who can suddenly walk again.

Oh, at the same time I am one of like 11% of the population that has NO depth perception. I do not see in three dimensions. Obviously it isn't like when one of you guys close one eye and start running into things and falling down all the time. I have adapted pretty well. But along with bad glasses, obviously that has a really bad effect on my riding, especially at speed. Anybody else out there with this problem?
