Well, we've covered music and sports so I figure it's time we covered something most of us covet........beer. What are your top 5 favorite brews?

My personal favorites (in order of preference):

1. Samuel Smith - Nut Brown Ale
2. Dixie - Blackened Voodoo
3. Murphy's Stout
4. Pilsner Urquel (spelling?!)
5. Dos Equis - when the weathers warm

Great...., now I'm thirsty!!!

I usually drink Amstel Light at home.
Bass or Harpoon IPA while out.

And you see what it has done for my figure.

Anything from the Willmantic Brewing Company in Willi! Can't beat fresh brew pub beer
Beamish Stout from County Cork!
Guinness
Murphy's Irish Stout (runs in third place for me)
Gotta love Harpoon (pretty much everything they make)
Used to drink a lot of Saranac when I lived in upstate NY (great brews from them)
I sometimes like a Rolling Rock if I'm looking for something that I can down real fast
Dos Equis for my Mexican choice

I like to try different brands............so many great choices out there........so little time!

'33'? Good 'ole Latrobe Sulphur Spring water. Better off with the only US Pilsner (for some reason we call it Lager) to acheive and international ranking, Miller Lite.

LOL! For some reason I would take a RR over a Miller any day.

I've had a few Smuttynose brews in a sampler 12 pack and was very impressed...is that NH based Mircrobrewery?

Lately I've been buying mostly Harpoon brews since they are a big NEMBA supporter and all.........and they make great beer! Lightyears above that other Boston-based brewery - Sam Adams(do they actually brew any beer other than brewery tour beer in Boston anymore?) My brother in law used to work for Genny (High FAlls) and I know that a great deal of Sam Adams was being brewed in Rochester. I guess it doesn't really matter where it's brewed, it's the formula/recipe that is most important.

Hell there are probably a half dozen or so different microbrews that come from the FX Matts brewery in good ole scenic Utica, NY.....including one of my favorite brands - Saranac.

Still prefer Harpoon over Sam's any day.

Anyone try the Harpoon Hibernian Style Ale last week? Good stuff!!

Markus Orelius -

Yes. Smuttynose is right up the road in Portsmouth NH. Good stuff.

Harpoon = NEMBA sponsor = good.

I've been down this road with you beer snobs before....I'm out ;D

Any one ever try La Fin Du Monde, Mmm Mmm Mmm, good stuff I do declare. If your really feeling adventurous try Rochefort #10 or Westvleteren #12, Trappist ales. Actually Redbones, Mmmmm, carries them both I think, try one if you all make it to the M.B.V.As there. I do like Smuttynose, Doggfish head Indian Brown Ale, of course Harpoon, and Joe's Duct Tape Label Brews,.... <---My home brew!, Magic Hat..... too many to list... Ahh beer, the cause and solution to all of lifes problems!

remember its not the beer that makes you fat. its the pizza ,burgers, fries, nachos and other fried foods. using a beer to wash it down is not the problem.

Geez, MTBTom, how can you post such a tasty looking Chocolate stout? It's not even 5pm yet--how do you expect us to keep working? ;D

btw: can you believe that Bass Ale now comes in cans? What's the world coming to? Furthermore, they're 11.1 oz cans!

Mine has to be Harpoon UFO. Although all I've realy had to drink since college is Harpoon, the perks of having a roomate who does sales for the company....we've had a fridge full of Harpoon for the last couple of years....i actually haven't lived with him for a couple of months, but somehow i still have lots of harpoon....so its UFO for me...can't beat it...

my favorite drinking beer (ie. beer pong beer) is Miller High Life

as the wise homer simpson stated:

mmmmm....beeeeerrrrrr

Do they have the Widget inside the cans like the Guinness Cans and a few other Brands (Murphy's in a Can, Old Speckled Hen in a Can, etc.)?

When I drink beer it's Miller Lite from a can. I cant wait to hear all the snotty responses from the NEMBA beer elite. Get over it, it's just beer people.

Man, you can make a question out of any post, can'tcha? (whoops, that's a question to--don't answer!).

The Bass in cans is just that, Bass in a can. I'll have to do a glass vs. bottle comparison but for some reason it doesn't taste as good. However, beat's Miller Lite. Right, AA?

Bass on tap is the only way. No cans allowed..
Killians is tasty.

Harpoon pale ale very nice.

Pete's wicked summer brew.

After 2 of each of the above. I will pretty much drink any type of beer after that. Like my taste is women my standards seem to lower after a few..lol

I guess I can PK.........but Bass in a can without the widget just doesn't sound like it would cut it. But you are right, it would still beat Miller Lite.

I guess my philosophy on beer is that I'm not a heavy drinker so when I have a few I want them to have some real flavor and character.

If I were somewhere where Miller or Bud were being served, sure I'd drink it. But if I have a choice, say at a pub or restaurant, I'll choose what I like. Simple as that.

1. corona
2. harpoon
3. forget the name but my couz gets these micrbrewery variety packs and it has some good ones(that's all i remeber about tehm)

not much experience with plain beer though. mostly only drink when in minerva with couz's, in another country, or international waters (i.e. the cruise to and at the bahamas)

other good alcoholic drinks i've tried:
1. daqueries (banana and strawberry) (spelling?)
2. mike's hard lemonade and iced tea
3.Bailey's irish cream
4.white russians

that's about all of my alcoholic experiences that i liked or remember.

Let's not forget about Hoegarden Belgian White...a very fine brew indeed (didn't see it on your list agentgrape????)
Leffe Belgian wheat is another favorite. The Point Break pale ale at Trinity Brew House is very tasty also.
The hefeweizen I brewed a couple months back is very good....any other homebrewers out there???
