Does anyone Ride race face Prodigy crankset? Just curious about the S.HI.F.T. technology. My sugar 3 came with a bontrager crank set and I swapped it out with a shimano LX and still have some shifting problems. Just curious how they ride? ??? ???

Hey Boingboing,

I don't use a Race Face Prodigy but I have used Shimano LX on both full suspensions and hardtails. I'm definitely not the smarest guy on the fourm and (it's rather apparent in the number of mistakes I've made setting up my bike) but before you ditch the LX, make sure that It's set up properly.

1. When you said that you swapped cranks, did you swap bottom brackets also? Different cranks require different lengths of bottom brackets. This has always been a guide for me:

The right bottom bracket will improve your chainline and help with shifting, but (caution) since you have a full suspension you may not be able to get the suggested length bottom bracket on your bike.

2. Make sure that your front derailleur is set up properly. Pull out the instructions... it makes a difference.

3. On most full single pivot full suspensions the distance between the cranks and the cassettes gets longer or shorter as the suspension flexes. I always had a little problem with shifting in the upper or lower ranges... and when the suspension is working.

4. Get other opinions from smarted NEMBA forum members!

I have the Prodigy cranks with SRam stuff.
Every once in while, I'll get a skip, but nothing notable.
Run pretty well for the price.

Pudding has good advice...I had to swap my BB.

Can you be more specific on your shifting problem?
Which gears, etc?

It miss shifts between the lower 2 rings. I went through the derailer. adjustments and have that in tune. The chain angle from the middle ring and the low gear on the cassete is huge. The derailer will shift and the chain will not change gears (it takes 7 or 8 sft cranks before it will finally go) when hitting a climb theres only time for 3 at best well you know that. But anyway the chain angle has to be that way because of the swing arm. It does not seem like the BB or rings can move in any closer without hitting so I thaught that that SHIFT system would be the answer to give the chain that extra boost to get over on the next ring. Oh I wouldnt can the LX crankset I just snagged it from my hardtail for a bit to try and solve this problem. Oh running a continuous cable to the rear derailer solver the chain from hopping when compressing the rear shock. (Thanks again to the guy at NEMBAfest who gave me that idea).
