For instance, I want to buy a McLeod or want info on bridge building - the Advocacy and Trail Issues section isn't quite the place, and if I pose the question in General Discussion and get some good answers, it's hard to find later.

pk - how about it?

I guess Phil's asleep...

To one of the original questions, what's a good place to buy a McLeod (fire rake), preferrably mail order?

Dude,

It's 3/15, a Saturday. Why would you think that Phillip would be monitoring the forum?

From my perpective a Trail Maintenance section can't hurt but the Advocacy and Trail Issues section could work too.

There are many of online resources available to respond to your inquiry. Without exerting any effort myself, might I suggest dropping into IMBA's website, www.imba.com (http://www.imba.com), and their resources section?

snirch and YETI187, thanks for the pointers.

Oh, yeah, snirch:

1) A month of Saturdays has gone by since the first post.

2) There's a significant difference between advocacy and technique. The former's about effective politics. The latter's about how to build and maintain trails.

It would be too bad if Zac goes out of business. They make great tools. They are one of the best places to purchase McLeod’s. Last fall I purchased all of the tools for the Greater Boston tool trailer and kept records of how much each piece cost and where I purchased it. I would be happy to provide any info.

Great Idea for the tools & resources section, Tom :-)

Bummer about Zac Tools, every chapter should buy a few of their primo McLeods before they go under.

I don't think Zac sells fire rakes, I've been wanting to get some since I first tried one at Hodges a few years back. A very good tool for brushy or rooty areas where lopping individual branches is a PITA. You might want to consider getting strap on steel toe protectors to go with them, the teeth are very sharp. The Army Corps of Engineers guys had em.

Thanks,

Anne
