In my experience, most who say they dislike auto racing or who say they "don't get it" , have never attended an auto race in person. I've converted more then one of these and offer this invitation to any other open minded person. Just go once, not to the big tracks but to a nice local spot. STAR Speedway in Epping N.H. is good but if you want the real grass roots (like you sit on a 2x6 on the grass) then try Hudson International in Hudson N.H. Its a show you will never forget. Let me know if you want to go. (summer of course)

It's an annual event at mom's house. She makes meatball and sausage grinders, buys beer, and bakes cookies. All I do is show up, and I get to watch the race and stuff my fat face. I usually fall asleep though. All that beer and food knocks me out. :)
I just have a feeling Michael Waltrip is going to take it. If not, than Tony Stewart (my personal favorite).

Bill,
I guess I don't fit that category. I can hear the cars racing at Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday nights in the summer even though it is 5 miles from my house! So last year we dicided to check out a race and went to a big ho-down event with fireworks and everything. I have to admit Bill that it was worse then a dentist appointment. Still doesn't make sense to me, but if that is what gets folks off, so be it...I am not saying people who watch cars drive around in circles are wierd or anything, I like watching people ride bikes in circles!
"He's turning left folks! Oh, my god! Can you believe it, he is approaching a left hand turn! And, yes he did it, he completed the left hand turn!"
(was that a parody of a Criterium or a NASCAR race?)

I am a Nascar fan and I have been for years! If you think that racing is simply individuals driving in circles then you're missing the point. The same simple explanation could be given on any sport. Driver skill, technology, conditioning, and team work are the key components of racing. Ok....., I get sensitive when people make fun of Nascar!!
I am pulling for Rusty Wallace, he's due for a big win.

He's been driving very well that past couple of years. I wish he'd win the race without anything that can take away from his victory, ala Earnhardt's death or the shortened race.
That Ryan Newman crash was scary!!!
