View Full Version : I start my new job on Monday!

I start my new job next Monday as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for the UConn Health Center in Farmington, CT. I'm stoked to be making this move within the UConn Foundation to this new position for numerous reasons.

One of them happens to be that I'll be working very very close to the West Hartford Reservoir!!! So this season, my plans are to do as many pre-work, lunchtime, and post-work rides as I can at the Res. :)

It also looks as though I'll be relocating to some location west of Hartford, so if any CT NEMBA members know of good locals, or apartments or houses for rent, shoot me an email or Private Message.

Also, if any of you guys and gals frequent the reservoir let me know as I've only ridden there once with some very kind and friendly and helpful NEMBA members (you know who you are and I thank you again!) and I could use a few more guided rides early in the season.

One more thing, I'd love to hear about other sweet riding locations west of Hartford (think Avon, Canton, Simsbury, Bloomfield, Farmington, etc.)

Thanks in advance for any info you can share!!

Cheers,

MMcG

Mark, try to remember what level your riding skills are at right now. You are still relatively new to the sport, but very dedicated. Now, you keep your ass on your saddle as much as you are, and by the end of the summer, you'll be amazed at much better you'll be. I've only got about two years experience on you. 8)

Mark,

I'm more than a little curious as to what happens at 450. Do you think you could ask 10 or 11 questions today?

Wow, did I just do that! I asked a question to Mark to get Mark to ask more questions!

Gungy,

My pace has slowed down lately, but SloMoJo is doing a great job of picking up my slack. ;)
If he keeps up his pace, he'll pass me by the end of February I suspect! ;D

Oh Crap! I just added another with this damned reply.

Cheers,

I know I upped my pace this week just to hedge against SloMo passing me but it was a futile effort. The man is on a tear!

What are post numbers? :)

I know...
I can't seem to shut my trap lately.
My real plan is to help bring your numbers up, then I will delete my username in the spring, and you guys will rule the forum universe, as the ultimate post gods you really are! :)

Hell, I'm just the new guy here. ;)

Great news Mark! Congrats!!!!!

I hope we don't get into a big East side/West side battle though. You know how those gangsta rappers have this east coast/west coast rivalry?

Mark is riding a nameless trail at the Res when all the sudden a branch get lodged in his front tire and....endo city. Noone saw what happened... Mark gets up and dusts himself of and says he didn't see that stick... ???
JT is enjoying a rocky downhill section at Soapstone and takes a rock to the mid section...uuumph! There are no witnesses, no suspects, but how did that rock fly up and hit him in the side? ???

The tension grows as strange incidents occur in the woods until it happens! On a NEMBA West Hartford Res ride all of the riders find the air has been let out of their tires and a couple of "East Siders" are spotted pedalling away giggling down the trail before a CO2 cartridge can be pulled from a camelback.

Why can't we all just live in peace and harmony? Good luck with your move over to the dark side Mark! Don't be blinded by the good riding over there, and don't forget your friends east of the river...

Come to the light Markie. Listen not to the naysayers. With the exception of the Shenip and Case (ok, there are a few other tasties out that way) they know not what they are talking about. The Res is ok but there are a whole slew of others that await you.

JT,

It's all good and I look at it this way............we'll have the best of both worlds..........as I sure hope I'll always be welcome for "East Side" rides and of course you and Mrs. JT and your riding buds are always welcome on the other side of the river for some "West Side" rides!

I'm also up for experiencing some "South Side" and "North Side" riding within the Nutmeg State and beyond this season.

How's Montreal for a North Side destination sound? ;-)

Hmmm........what about a southern destination?

With regards to the Endo at the Reservoir......I'll most likely take care of that one on my own without any assistance from and unruly "East Sider!"

Cheers,

Mark

You see this is these rivalries get started! You invite yourself to ride on "my" trails, and then invite my buds over there to ride, but I am not invited! :'( You said it yourself and I am hurt. Gorsh I hope you carry a pump...

Hey now........you are the instigator here Mr.....look closely above and I do write you, Mrs. JT and your riding buds. I think you may be guilty of editing my text. I would most definitely not exclude you JT! After all, I wanna see you do some hucks and crap on that new Trans Red Bullit of yours!

But if this does turn into a "friendly rivalry" of sorts and you are riding that Trans Red Bullit......does that mean I should be riding a Trans Blue Heckler, or will Dark Metallic Blue work as well? ;)

And I will be carrying a pump....in fact I have two of them now! ;-)

And I also here rumours that the Res. is frequented by larger numbers of female riders than other destinations (hopefully a number of them will be single female riders) and that would be another plus for me right about now. ;)

OK, so now I edit text, hey! What did I do to disserve such abuse? ;D

I guess I will just invite myself to ride over therethen...When are we riding? Guess I should get my bike built soon so I can have less veiled self-invitations.... ;)

'Tis true. LOTS of female riders there (hotties, too). Of course if I were single, I probably wouldn't see any. It's funny like that. ;D

Be careful, buddy. Do the laundry, clean the bathroom, and do the dishes and you might be safe.

Is this what the latest chick daily tip read, "Leave me the f#$k alone!"

No promotion........more of a lateral move with incredible potential, and at the same time I'm helping out a friend of mine who's going through some personal hard times who will be assuming my position.

No yuppie loft for this guy........but I do have my eye on a little fixer upper in Avon on a small lake. If it's nice it could be ideal for me, my sons, and my dogs. One can only hope.

So, since you're eyeing property in AVON on a LAKE you are basically saying that the yuppie lifestyle is beneath you?

Gungy,

If you read the description of the house you'd understand........very very small........in need of work etc. etc.

It was basically the only property that I might be able to afford in Avon! LOL

Take care,

Mark

Good for you Mark!

I don't know much about the area except in my younger years I went there for a LAX tournament, and then in college I had a buddy who lived down there (Russian Lady anyone)... I guess Mark, I never realized how affluent you were. Had I known I would have tried to get you to like me more so I could hang out with you and your well to do friends. Instead I'm stuck with Todd from Maine hanging at the gas and sip talking about how we wish we could go to Harpoon for MTB night.

So it's the mansion next doors old boathouse? Or bootleggers shack? Or one of Henry David Thoreau's houses?

One of my friends wife teaches at Avon High. Very nice!

JT,

I did overcome the oversized amenities...removed some 2x4s and removed the three things that the computer monitor was sitting on top of ( I would have gotten a stiff neck looking up like that!!). I lowered the seat to my comfort level and I was good to go!

I kept thinking to myself that the guy I switched jobs with might have a hard time finding a good bike to fit him (he's at least 6'3")

No photos though...I don't have a digital camera.

Holy Crap.....this is post 450 for me! Are my monitor and CPU going to explode or something.....or on the other side....do I get some sort of prize? ;D

You Eastside Westside people are missing the point.

It's not who has the better trails.... it's who has the better beer locations AFTER the ride.

Congrats, Mark on your new job.
