As you know I've been doing a lot of research on a full suspension frame/bike and as part of that process I've visited a lot of web sites, spent time on Ebay, etc. etc.

It got me to thinking that there are and have been some great names for bikes over the years.

Current ones that I'm impressed with are Surly's new Karate Monkey and also Kona's Makena (because it has a great story behind it - see their web site for more details on that one).

I also ran across a couple of Kona Sex One full suspension rigs over the last few months while scanning E-bay. And what's that really long-assed Kona cruiser rig they had a few years back (Gungy you own one of these don't you?)

What are some other classic/weird/different/unique names for bikes that you guys and gals have come across over the years or maybe even owned or currently own.

Oh yeah and do any of you give your bikes names of your own?

I hope this one hasn't been covered already and if so, my apologies.

That crud from bikerag.com, "The Pukemaster," named his homemade bike "Hogi Yogi," which is apprently some sort of convenience store/brothel located somewhere in New Mexico.

My little brother's first bike was called "El Desperado." Seriously. I think it was a Huffy, but I'm not sure. Yes, it had a southwest theme. He would be forced to ride John to my Ponch, as I was older and bigger and would kick the crap out of him if her didn't submit to my authority.

Yes, there was some pent-up rage he was carrying around from my bullying. But I figured by the time he was 24 (and I 27) such rage would be gone. But lo and behold, at a Thanksgiving eve party I held over a keg of Harpoon IPA, Frank and I start some hard-core drinking. I say something that infuriates him (suprise). Anyway, I learned exactly how much rage he still possessed from being John (John is just that lame). The little crap learned how to fight somewhere along the line and put me in my place. Then we cried. Then we hugged. Then we laughed. And drank some more.

My sister's first bike was dubbed "Scamp" by its manufacturer, Columbia. It still sits in my parent's garage (right next to my bed).

It was the very first two-wheeler I rode. And of course, being as athletic as I am, I rode it without training wheels. I figured,it is one thing to be riding a girl's bike at 21, but it is another thing to be to be riding a girl's bike with training wheels at 21.

Now does my sister have any pent-up rage? I don't think so, but usually I'm the last to know. But perhaps I should refrain from going to any keg parties with her.

Big Game,

Are you okay dude!

What about bikes named after bands or bands named after bikes or vice versa?

You have the RM Slayer and the Ventana Pantera, wasn't there or isn't there a band called Fuel? Am I forgetting some?

JT, Chumba Wumba has a cool lookin logo and a few funky names, but whenever I think of Chumba Wumba I think of that one hit wonder song that was on the radio several years ago! You know, the "I get knocked down, but I get up again" song. What the hell was the name of that song anyway?

Fisher still makes the Hoo Koo E Koo I think.

Kona has to be the company with the craziest names don't you think?

Surly definitely has cool names in addition to the Karate Monkey they have the Cross Check (as a huge hockey fan I can appreciate that one) and the Instigator for their burly hardtail frame....pretty cool.

Maybe the bike for me is the Titus Riddler! I think I remember someone suggesting I use the Riddler as an Avatar a few months ago didn't they? :)

Kona "Humu Humu Nuku Nuku A' Pua' A" it's the state fish of Hawaii

Kona also has a model called the "Munimula" it's aluminum spelled backwards.

Kona roads bike "Haole" pronounced howly. It means non-native or outsider a perfect name for a roadbike built by a mountain bike company.

I'll think of more.

As for bands named after bikes, I once bought a cd of a band called BICYCLE just because of the name. The signature song was called ELECTROLUX. They traveled on tour a few summers ago on you guessed it......BICYCLES!!!!
They transported all their instuments and stuff by bike, now that's hard core. Now don't get me wrong, I'm no big fan or anything. I just found it to be pretty wild to go through all that and still perform.

I'm partial to the Kona Stinky Deelux, especially when my 3-year-old proudly proclaims, "Daddy has a Stinky".

Truer words were never spoken.

The BMX companies usually have the best names, here are ome good examples:
S&M Bikes: some of their model names the "War Pig" and "Call Girl".
FBM - Fat Bald Men (aka Fire Beer Mayhem)
Gack Bikes

Some good mountain bike names:
On-One has the "Gimp"
DeKerf has the "Implant"
Spooky had the "Metalhead"
Sinister almost had the "Huka" and "Pissa" (but I squashed those...)

Come On Sinister! "Pissa" would mean a deluxe version could be the "Wicked Pissa"

I don't know. I've said it fast a few times and all I've managed to do it give myself a migraine.

Now that I have recovered from this pain, I'm thinking that I want to sue you for money damages.

Oh wait, you didn't give me this pain. It's coming from this crap-ass job I've been forced to endure. Hmm. I wonder if I could sue my boss. Or maybe I'll just get even by wasting "company time" writing nonsense on this post.

Didn't Kona also have a Duh Duh bike? Maybe a downhill rig?
