I am comparing forks for my soon to be new ride which is a large 2003 bullit. I want to set it up for mainly hard xc riding with freeride/drops, etc. The dilema I have now is which front fork to put on the beast. I thnik I have narrowed it to two, so I would like to hear your opinions...
1. Marzocchi Z1 FR SL
2. Rock Shox Boxxer Race (still thinking about it Grape Ape)
The weight difference is about 1 lb, the travel difference is 1-2 inches depending on set-up. How does the Boxxer handle xc riding? It would seem a shame to have too little front travel, but would suck to have a pogo stick. What do you experts think?

You didn't really mean the Z1 FR SL, did you? That's the air version, and I don't think it belongs on a Bullit. I'm guessing you meant the Z1 FR, the coil version. If you're a big guy, I'd say go for the DC fork. I use either a Z1 or a Mr.T depending on the circumstances, and the Mr.T really does feel a lot more solid. I'm not too sure about the Boxxer Race, though -- does it really have all the Boxxer internals, or is it a stripped down version, sorta like the Jr. T? Maybe a used, older Boxxer would be better.
Just to increase your dilemma, Marzocchi is rumored to be coming out with the Z150, a 6" travel version of the Z1 fairly shortly.

whatever fork you go with get the 20 mm axle option. big difference on a single crown. and forget any air fork.

Hi JT
Marzocchi, coil. Remember also that the more you push that front end up and out with more travel, the closer you get to a freeride bike. I have the dirtjumper on my Klein.
The big soft fork out front will force you to increase your minimum travel speed. The new fork will compress and swallow all your momentum when you hit a rock that you used to bounce and roll over.

Dawg,'
Do you do much xc riding with that set-up? If so, how does the Jr T handle long rides?
