How many made it out this morning? The little thing on Channel 10 said 5 when I left this morning. I know Agentgrape and a crew went out.
I only did 8 miles but it felt good to get out. I think the people ice fishing thought I was crazy but I wasn't sitting on ice...

Rode about 7 miles on a paved (plowed actually) bike path saturday. There's way to much snow to ride anywhere else in NY right now. It did feel good to get out even if it was only 8 degrees! ;D

I rode 12-14 miles at Wompy on saturday at 10am. The temperature was 0-10. I think i qualify as crazy..friends and i did have fun and saw othe mtbers out there too.
I'd like to report that Lake MXZ300 shoes ROCK for cold weather as do perlizumi lobster gloves and Nokian 296 tires. Winter riding is fun but still cant wait for spring...

I'd like to get out, but there's 1.5 feet of snow everywhere. How do you guys ride in that sh*t? I'm a wimp. I just stay curled up in a ball in the corner shivering in my crib. I can't stand the Winter. But I'm gettin in shape, all pumped up and ready for the Spring, ready to pedal my soon to be mine 50lb kona stinky 9 all over the place. I'm gonna crack my head open on that thing. And my legs are gonna be tweaked out riding that thing up hills all year. Yep, nothing like a Kona Stinky 9 as a nice all around trail bike. So yeah, I guess I could be lumped in with the crazy bunch. But as for the weather, I'm at work shivering. My feet sweat so bad my feet are freezing. I'm in a 70deg office and legs are frozen together by the thing in between my legs. I went outside for 2 minutes to warm up my car this morning, slipped on the driveway and scraped my cheek on an icy snow bank. My 2001 VW Jetta looks like it was taken out of a swamp down in LA. God I hate New England. God I hate Winter. I'm also getting rid of my skimobile. Knuckle

Sorry its not Biking, but snowshoeing...
Still crazy because it was -27 at the base of Goose Eye Mtn in Maine on Sat. morning, that's right, that's a negative sign.
I've never felt such cold, but after four miles uphill through knee to waste deep snow there was no need for a jacket or hat. The shot below is looking down on the icy climb just before the summit.
Probably warmed up to about -10 by noon.

Beautiful pic Crash. Thanks for sharing it with us, man!
For those who have too much snow for riding, West Woods in Guilford is essentially snow free (I believe Bluff Point is as well). It's is a short drive from the Boston area. Well, not really. But it still is worth the trip.

Yeah, A few of us did a little shoeing up to Purgatory falls in Lyneboro NH. Below is a shot of that but it was a balmy 4-5 degrees. I salute you crash! Hey where is Mt Goose Eye?

Ok all you snowers, I am thinking about buying a set of shoes. A fellow worker runs in snow shoes races. He recomended atlas for shoes. He said I could get a decent pair for about $150,but if I was to get serious I should spend about $250(poles included). Before I go and spend all this dough I would like a second opinion..

nhiker, Goose Eye is in eastern Maine, about 8 miles south of Grafton Notch along the Mahoosuc Range and is 3870 in elevation Other Good hikes in that Range are Old Speck, 4170, and Mt. Baldpate, 3790 ft.
Evil, Atlas are great shoes I hear, but other comparable brands are Tubbs and Red Feather. I have only shoed a couple times, but the Tubbs I've been borrowing work great, I think I'll buy a pair. Make sure you buy a size rated high enough for your entire weight including pack and gear. Check www.campmor.com and www.sierratradingpost.com for deals, and ebay of course.

Nice shot CB! I hope you didn't to take off the gloves to take the picture. From the looks of that summit, a pair of crampons may have been a better choice at the top there.
Winter summits are the way to go! Less traffic and more importantly, NO BUGS!
Bota - My Tubbs snowshoes have been kickin' for about 10 years! They are far from the racing kind as they are for packing loads of up to 240 lbs, but they are bomb-proof! I like winter camping and back country shoeing so went with the bigger shoe. Make sure you consider the type of terrain you will be on before you buy. Packed trails shoes are alot different then back country...

Went out last evening at 7 pm for a 25 mile road ride. Lights blazing and blinkers blinking. It wasn't in the neg degrees, but it seemed like it with the wind chill of me riding unusually quick and the super strong headwind the whole way or so it seemed. The good news is I didn't get hit and stayed toasty warm due to the marvels of modern riding clothes.

I Have a pair of 3 year old Tubbs, they are nice but kind of boring and not very versatile. This type of design is better suited for west coast powder. I Love my MSR Denali Ascents. These snowshoes rock for East Coast conditions! I used to also carry crampons, but with the Denalis there is no need.
Small, pack able and light,
Add tails for powder,
Great on ice, and steep stuff,
Flip up Heel bail for climbs, feels like your walking on steps,
Easy bindings, fits sneakers to big snowboarding boots with no adjustments.
OH Yeah, I'm crazy! Every year in February on the full moon, the MT.A crew goes camping on some God forsaken cold ass mountain....any takers? This year it's the 15th & 16th somewhere off 302 in NH, past Attitash SKI area.

Its official Ranger is hardcore!
Last night I rode the misery machine (mag trainer) for an hour while watching re-runs of Seinfeld............ "So you want to be my latex salesman?"
January 22nd, 2003, 10:17 AM
What does a latex saleman make in a year and can I get some personal days for when I really need a ride? AA, I think we are all hardcore in our own ways. I do not do 12 foot drops like Knuckles or any of that playground stuff, it scares the crap out of me.

If you aren't living in Hawaii or some other warm climate, and actually biked in New England, at night, in the winter, on the road, in frigid temps, with a wind, for 25 miles, I care not what kind of high-tech clothes you wore. You are indeed the craziest of the crazy. Congratulations.

Thanx for the vote of confidence Big Game. I don't reply to threads very often, though I do read most of them daily, but I have always found you words to be true and wise. It is no wonder that you are the driving force behind the Nemba forum and let it be known that we would all be lost without you. Long live Big Game!

Evil, I have a pair of atlas 30"s graet shoe. Not a racing shoe by any means. Check out the Tubbs line and Sherpa is another good brand. Rent from EMS to try different brands.
Good luck, great sport good excersise during couch patatoe season.
Thanks for the imfo crash, I will check it out.
