View Full Version : Arcadia Trail Conditions 01/17/03
January 17th, 2003, 05:38 PM
Arcadia picked up a dusting of new snow from this mornings storm at the most. Most trails still have an inch or two of snow left on them from previous storms. Conditions are very good and as long as you dress in layers its no big deal.
Caution: Some icy areas on most of the dirt roads. The parking area at Breakheart Pond was a giant sheet of ice (hidden under the snow of course) so be careful there. I checked the main lot past the white church and it seemed to be ok for the most part.
Lots of cold air on the way with the possibility of additional snowfall on Sunday. Get out and make the best of it. Trail conditions are really fantastic.

Any word on the sabotage mentioned in this thread?

Did check on the trail debris placed on the east double-track around Breakheart Pond. Someone has already moved half of them out of the way and the rest can all be ridden over. Don't know who or why they were put there. There is some illegal ATV traffic that comes in off of Austin Farm Road so maybe directed at them. If directed at mt. bikes it was a pretty lame effort since all can be ridden over.
Monday afternoon was damn cold. Saw three other like minded souls out riding with their black lab. Never did get my feet to warm up. Conditions are still excellent. Watch out for some thin ice here and there. Frostbite/hypothermia is an issue right now so be careful. See ya,
Mike ;D

Rode North side this past Sunday. Not many cars in the main parking lot in the am (maybe 6). Trails are in great condition. Most trails are almost clear of snow, except a couple that remain in the shade most of the day. Some frost heaves over on Breakheart Trail just above the wet area (near Breakheart Pond). Tree down on Breakheart shortly after you cross Matteson (sp?) Plain Road/above next trail crossing. Other than that temps. were in the mid/high 20's which was nice for a change.
Area should receive a dusting of new snow Sunday nite/Monday am. Enjoy.
Mike ;)
