Let's hear about some riding adventures with our fearless leader. He has a habit of luring people in and then springing the trap. ;) Anybody care to relate their story?

See.. no response.

I figured that PK guy could not really be all that bad. I saw his pic..he looks like such a nice boy. He'd never really push people hard would he? :)

PK has mellowed in the past few years and he can actually go on a group ride and not need it to be a minimum of three hours. Back in the mid 90's before PK fell victim to the ravages of old age there would be 30 mile hammer fests during the week. If you were so lucky to be on one of these rides god forbid you got a flat or crashed. We didnt call them "leave em for dead" rides for nothing.

If the ride did stop for any reason there would be the familiar "hey there's no lawn chairs on this ride" admonishment.

Probably the most infamous ride was one I wasnt on. During a ride a few summers ago one of the riders crashed into a rock pile and hurt his arm. PK told him to rub a little dirt on it and keep going. During the post ride beer drinking Mrs PK (an MD no less) gave the diagnosis that you have a bruise, take some Advil and you will be fine. The next day he went to the hospital and his arm was broken in multiple places (4 I think). That famous ride has now converted that guy into a full time roadie.

The other thing that you need to be aware of when you ride with PK is it is always "15 minutes" to the car or house or wherever you are going.

Aside from that he tracks mud on your floors, isnt house broken, dosent put the seat down and never washes his van. However he uses lots on multi-sylabic words to give the appearance of intelligence and good breeding therefore fooling a lot of people.

I'll second what AA said, especially the part about tracking mud on the floor ;) PK has a self aquired reputation of making a fun and enjoyable event torture.

From my perspective it's not always the time or distance, it's all about terrain choice. PK tends to like overgrown, thorny vegetable tunnels in the middle of a summer heatwave, trails which lack technical lustre. This is likely because he is a self admitted freeriding tea-totaler (as opposed to a T-riding freeloader).

It's all good and w/ PK on board there is sure be some sort of excitement, be it a fore-arm broken in 5 places, 25 miles into a 35 mile ride, a knee that requires multiple stitches to repair or the occasional slacker left for dead.

Being winter I forgot about PK's love of overgrown thorn infested squirrel paths, I have the scars to prove it.

Yes, underneath that docile-looking exterior is an impatient little Jack Russel Terrier, always ready for action. :)

Oh... and don't forget. If all these stories don't scare you off and you still actually want to go on the ride -- DON'T BE LATE!!! He will not wait.

In fact, I know someone who showed up for a ride 5 minutes early one time and they had already left!

SloJo, he's not pushy, it's more like he's driven by madness. I think there is a little invisible demon that sits on his shoulder and yells in his ear, "pedal harder PK, your friends are only 60 feet behind you!!"

If you ever go on a ride, you will only see him twice, once in the parking lot before the ride, and once when you get back to the car. Come to think of it, it's more like biking with a eager dog than a human.

Hey Now!.... That's my 200th post!

I hate to think of what it was like in the days before he mellowed. I have never been left for dead but have had to exercise my own judgment at plenty of dark intersections. I usually hang ok until the 25th mile of a 20-mile ride. The ride that comes to mind for me is one that was billed to me as a quick little ride after work with Couch and PK. I was hammering at about 90% for 10 miles when I decided I needed some information on the full scope of the ride. I couldn't imagine keeping that pace if there was no chance of winning a trophy at the end of the ride. When PK told me we had another 18 or so in front of us I laughed. I became a little self-conscious when I realized that he wasn't laughing. My blood chilled just a bit because I knew that if he said it was another 18, I was in for at least another 25. I rarely ask how far we are going any more.

Haha...that's great.

Well, I think the mistake you have all made is letting PK lead the ride. You should have led the ride, and invited him.

When I walk a dog with that kinda energy I let it get a good lead then I take a turn on a different trail. It runs like a banshee to lead me again eventually tiring. :)

At any rate, we are fully warned now.

Justbill tells me he will only ride with pk if he is on his single speed, and then just maybe you can keep him in sight.

Geez, I don't check the forum for a day and look what happens! ;D

Look, no one's died yet. Just a few broken bones and a bit of blood. Only one broken back.

I guess I'm just misunderstood.

I had forgotten about the broken back incident :o, and you wonder why I dont want to go xc skiing with you.

Oh yea I forgot to mention is PK loves to ride on the lakes just as they freeze in early winter............. "1-1/2 inches is plenty of ice"

I'm sure there are plenty of other things that my mind has supressed as a defense mechanism

hehe PK you'd love nahanton park in needham and the trails on the vineyard. Lots of stumps, sticks, branches and thorns. The trails are also a wopping width of 2 inches!

Yeah the PK rides are fun. I got done with a ride and found out my shoe was full of blood and I was woozy. Literally, sock had to be wrung out of O+. Same ride as the busted arm ride. diff rider. Now we know why his Main Squeeze is a Medical Doctor. In fact I think 1/5 the people who ride with Pk are doctors, otherwise there would be more bodies in the woods.

PK rides pretty dern good for someone with a keg with them all the time ;D

WOW! he must have really mellowed out.... we rode the White Mountains adventure series ride.. about a third of the way through I think it was the 8th mile... I found myself dealing with a serious lack of stoping power on a big downhill.. In what I thought was a nice speed sucking shrub was a life sucking stump... yea it slowed me down from about 20-0 in 0 seconds.. I thought my skeleton was going to jump right out of my body.. I pulled myself together got to the bottom where there was a water stop and there he was.. he was actually waiting for me... I spent the rest of the ride telling him "I know I'm slowing you down so take off if want I'll make it fine" but he waited for me ;D Thanks pk though Istill feel bad for slowin you down on that one

Join the club.
It appears we all slow pk down.

In fact NEMBA stands for "People who Dragass Compared to PK". We just changed the letters so it's not so obvious.

In my experience, there are 2 keys to riding with philip:
1. it's good to remember that philip doesn't always tell the truth (i.e. " there's no hills on this ride, it's really flat").
2. the duration of any given ride is not determined until the first rider cracks and begins sobbing for his mommy; from that point you've got about 8 more miles (25 if on road). it's therefore a good idea to make sure there's someone along who'll break down before you do.

personally, i always ask if hogboy's going along before I commit to any rides with pk. ;)
