The guy in the hockey jersey is John Huard, he is one of the partners at Sinister Bikes and is from ME, so the U Maine jersey makes regular appearances on the trail. ;D

That was Dan Courntey from Dedham Bike and as far as what went wrong, it's really tough to say. The gap (which doesn't look like much in the video) is real tricky, it's a 4 1/2 foot ledge with a 12 foot rock garden just after the lip. So you need clear most (if not all of the rocks) to stick the landing, Dan came up short and stuffed his front wheel on a rock (and we all know how that ended)...
