What's better in the snow, I've been having more luck with dh tires than studded. Just wandering. :)

Tires without studs work just fine until you hit ice underneath at speed. Then the injuries start.

What he said !

an example is I was out today at lunch with SloMoJo, and h e has Brand new nokia studded tires , I have 10 year old IRC blizzard Studded tires. My tires are very worn at one point we went over a frozen Puddle, when My rear tire Hit a portion of my tire that is missing studs I Slid out , SloMoJo Went right over it No Problem. he even went out of his way to ride ice ! with no slippage

well lets say you do the wachusett mtb ride down the slopes, and it is hard pack snow only, well, use DH tires. but if there is ONE iota of ice, you need studs.

for pure snow only, I reckon DH tires are supreme. but pure snow only happens in fairy tales and spring time.

studs just plain work and Nokians have an excellent knob pattern for the times when they ain't using the studs. the tread is a snow tread and has been fretted over to find the best snow-only design.

so, I'd say, not DH tire, but Nokians by brand name. and not just -studs- but Nokian treads. all in one.

That's cool.

The other thing impressing me about stud tires is how well they get you over the rocks. Even fluffy snow on rocks is dam slippery, and it's the last place I want to drop hard.

Anyway, you get the point by now.
Be studly! ;)
