Many of the local MA state/municipal riding areas close at the end of December, so for many of us we change regular riding locales until the spring. Where does everyone ride in the winter? Does frozen ground and snow keep you off the trails?

I usually ride Harold Parker once the ground's frozen. We got to know it pretty well last winter & were doing 20+ miler rides there by springtime.

That Nam I am, that Nam I am, I do not like green eggs and ham.

Ft. Rock stays open.
Massabesic is a good place to ride in the Winter. As those who rode the Turkey Burner can attest.
I also ride the trails behind my house which I normally wouldn't shake a stick at....but in the winter things change. (I think Z brought this point up in another thread)

In the winter I usually head to Cape Cod: either Otis or Trail of tears. The trails are swoopy, fast and very smooth. And when the sandy ground freezes up it's even more fun. I was down there two weekends ago and it reminded me how much of a blast it is to ride down there. Also, the cape normally stays pretty much snow/ice free all winter - although I don't think that's the situation down there right now.
I recently invested in some of those ice tires - after the 'warm' spell this week I'll bet the trails are going to get pretty slick when it cools off again.
Later!

Robinson State Park in Agawam, mass. (just west of Springfield) It was snow free almost all of last winter. It's fairly tame in the summer, but in the winter it provides 1 important thing: 2 hours of riding.

Steve,
You should just move to New England buddy!!!
You have to spend too much time driving to your riding destinations living up there in Clifton Park Suburbia.
I give you kudos for your dedication to drive so far to ride though.

Not all of us make those big bucks @ Uconn. ;D
It used to be worse. I lived in Syracuse most of my life. If knuckebustinpimpdaddy thinks Mass. is the dark cloud state he hasn't seen ****. I think the sun shines 23 days a year in cny. At least in the Albany area I can be in NYC, Qubec, or Boston in about 3 hours. (Not to mention the Berkshires, Adirondacks, and Catskills) I looked at the Boston area before moving to Albany. Ain't no way I could afford a $400,000 house/$2000 month apartment nor do I want to drive in from NH everyday. A 1-2 hour drive to ride once a week isn't much to me. I drive to Maine to visit the parents at least 10 times a year and most trips involve stopping to ride at places I couldn't otherwise.
btw: I am still expecting a tour of Soapstone from you. :D

Jolly Time is the real Soapstone ride guide here. I've only ridden there once (crashed there many times in that one ride though!).
As for big bucks at UCONN......you were joking there right!?
Just kidding ya anyway my friend. The Capital Region of the Empire State is a fine place to live! And it most definitely beats the hell outta Syracuse!
I'm a Rochester native myself, but loving the riding that is available here in CT. I look forward to riding many more places come springtime that's for sure.
But if you want to hit Soapstone, definitely hook up with JT! He's a great guy and an awesome rider to boot!
Cheers,
Mark
