Depending on your situation in life getting layed off can be a good thing. I got canned last year, was out of work for 6 months and it was a great break. Granted my wife works, we have no kids and we generally live a pretty simple lifestyle so it didnt put us in the poor house.

Yep, I'm in the same boat as AA. We also live a meager existance and with many years of bloated high tech wages for a couple D.I.N.K.'s, it leaves me looking for a lengthy break ;) Of course, they won't lay me off, they will make me stay.

I knew people who worked at Lotus when IBM bought them, so it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens at Rational. Ie. no layoffs (except some middle managers) but a brain drain loss of all talent. Well you saw that at IRIS, right? All the key Lotus people left and went to IRIS!

Problem with Couch is that he's been dying to get laid off for over a year... so naturally they keep giving him raises. Now IBM will probably fire his boss and give Couch the job.

Hogboy on the other hand recently mentioned that he felt secure about his job, and the next day was laid off.

Anyone got room for a small hogboy to live in their basement. Don't worry, he eats a lot, had bad manners, and always tracks dirt.

Hopefully that's great news for you! My company was just acquired also, but by another private company. We're all waiting to hear by early-mid Jan on any layoffs. Last time this happened it was Nortel-I had a 6 month riding vacation:) January's a tough time to start though!
