While perusing the aisles of Shaw's this morning at 6:55 am in order to pick up some bread so that I could make my finicky eating 6 year old a Peanut Butter and Fluff sandwich I caught a glimpse of a recent (December issue perhaps) issue of Bicycling Magazine.

The cover featured a headline for a contest where the magazine was giving a way a free pair of shoes to whoever sent in the best cycling tip. I don't have more details to share because I had to race home and make that PB&F sandwich and pack the rest of Liam's lunch...sorry guys.

My thoughts immediately raced to all of the fine tips offered up by fellow forum members such as Gungy, the illustrious Big Game, The sage NOO, the wise AA, as well as Jolly Time and others.

I bet one of you guys could win the damned contest! So go to your nearest bookstore and magazine shop and have a look see for yourself!

In case Todd reads this, I'm sure he'll be happy to see that it is question free! ;D

Here is my tip..........

To get that 6 year old to eat his sandwich cut off the crust and give him that and tell him that there starving kids in the world that would gouge out his eyes for that lousy crust so he better eat it and shut up or he wont get the good part of the sandwich. And while your at it tell him to go get a part time job after school so he can but the old man a new bike......... lousy ungrateful kids.

....... Oh you wanted a bike related tip, sorry.

Guys make sure your saddle is level or the nose slopes down slightly to avoid damage to your "nether" region.

McAskalot,

Thanks for the advice I'll check it out.

The best source for Mountain Bike tips is the NEMBA Forum.

Good Luck Gungy!

I agree with your tip above, but I think you'll have to get more creative to win the magazine's prize.

Now I think NOO has a chance with his front brakes are like donuts analogy/tip (a true gem!).

I really like Gungy's tips, but do you think it will win? Can anyone think of a better tip? What makes the best tip? Wouldn't it depend on what you were riding?

For a Magazine like Bicycling I would think the tip should be universal and apply equally as well to road and mountain biking.

But what the hell do I know...........not much............that's why I keep asking all these questions! ;D

Hey P.K.,

Is there anyway to get a list of all of Noo, Big Game, and gungywumps posts so we can cull them for useful tips? Maybe put them all in their own forum???

I think that PK was contemplating another "tips" article for singletracks, with all the content you "spam kings" post there should be no problem filling a few pages.

I want to point out that I have the best bicycle advice on earth right here and I am going to give it to all of you.

Are you ready ?

No, I don't think you are.

First I have to explain that although there will be a bike shop mentioned forthcoming, I am not trying to promote this shop over any oither shop.

Ignore the fact there is a shop mentioned, and look at the ADVICE I will point you to.

All bikes shops have gurus and all bike shops have a wealth of information, but what makes this site, the site of a Super-Genius, is the fact He actually published the 'knowledge' out on the web for you to look at. This sets this guy above the others, he is using the web to it's greatest potential.

------------------------------
Ok, the single greatest tip of all time is:

Me telling all of you about this site here. If you already know about it, congratulations. Now surf this site top to bottom and then tell me you still don't know how to find information on every last inch of bicycling tech inside and out

Hogboy,

Thanks for the link to Sheldon Brown's web site, but I don't think that's going to win you the new pair of shoes.

I bet a great deal of the mountain biking community, especially in New England, and I suspect worldwide, know of the site, especially single speeders and fixed gearies.

I think NEMBA could put together a great little "how to" booklet based on the posts here and use it as a fundraising item. Whattya think PK?

If you look at Singletracks #54 (March 2001) there is a great tips article. The guy who wrote that must be one smart guy..... oh that was me ;) I think NOO was offering to collect all the tips from various posters and compile them.

What do you think NOO

I believe it was GungyWumpass who volunteered. However, since you nominated me, I see no reason why Gungy and I cannot divide and conquer.

Gungy - you pull from BG and your own posts any worthwhile tips. I'll review my own posts as well as a sample of AA, Todd and someothers.....you down with that???

I'm jammed up the next couple of days so I can't promise any timeframes....

Just so we are all clear. These are MTB tips right?

I wasn't sure if we were talking about some of the "other" tips we see on here....

Such as....Knuckles early posts on foreign policy, corporate leadership, socioeconomic woes, and how to buy three forks for one bike before getting it dirty...so it is color coordinated...Also, should we exclude the dating tips we gave Big Game....what about some of Hogboy's pictures...???
