Just though I'd post a pix of my new (to me) rig. I haven't really had a chance to ride it yet, save a couple small jaunts. So far it's pretty sweet though.

Nic Rig! Where are you that you don't have snow, or is that a pre-snowfall photo?
Just curious, but how much does that rig weigh?
CouchingTiger
December 2nd, 2002, 02:13 PM
The shot was from a couple weeks back, though we don't have much of any snow now either.
Not sure what it weighs, but not too much more then my Bullit. I'd guess low 40# range.

Yeah, low 40s! Like 48! ;)
Does it come with a recliner?

Once again your questions have made me snap MMC! Who cares if he has snow in his back yard, and does it really matter how much his bike weighs! It's heavy! Every single fricking thing with you is a question!
Hey, CrouchTiger what kind of bags do you use when you rake leaves. Where did you buy the bricks for your patio? What is your middle name? What shade of white best describes your new bike? What does the word Intense mean? Where is your hidden dragon?

Sorry that I made you Snap Todd.....not having seen many free ride bikes I was just curious as to how much the damned thing weighed. For example, can you climb with a bike that heavy or do you have to walk the damned thing up hills etc. in order to have all that fun bombing down them? Uh Oh...another question! Now I probably really pushed you over the edge!
Chill out dude..........I'm just trying to learn a thing or two here and it's pretty hard to learn if you don't ask questions.
Did that new Trek arrive yet? :)

MMC - "Pushing a bike up hill" is probably not in Tiger's vocabulary, but the absence of a front derailleur is a good indicator that you and I would be walking that tank.
I'm calm, I'll vent again after I read about 50 more questions from you.
Nope, no new Liquid30 yet. I did sit on 20, very plush, loads of travel and still a light bike. Don't ASK, I couldn't find a scale!

Pushing it uphill would be a definite for me and I'd probably kill myself trying to ride something like that back down! ;D
Glad you are calm Todd........I was going to ask you some Jeckyl related questions as I recently saw the new Jeckyl 500 sans the lame Cannondale Headshock (it now comes with a Black up front).......but perhaps I should seek input from someone who gets less annoyed by my quest for information. I wouldn't want you to snap again so soon! ;)
Cheers!

I think I can answer some of Todd's questions..........
Bags - Home Depot
Bricks- Bob's bricks
Middle name- Couching "many bikes" Tiger
Meaning of intense- "Possessing or displaying a distinctive feature to an extreme degree"
Hidden Dragon- None of my business
Hey Couch is that bench made out of pressure treated wood?

Do you plant perennials or annuals in those flower boxes?

You beat me to the paint answer NOO!
I noticed the Maxxis Tires.......anyone else riding on Maxxis rubber?
Personally, I'd go with some Gerraniums (spelling?) in those flower boxes! My Mom always had a lot of Gerraniums at our house and the beauty of them was that she could bring them inside during the winter months to brighten the inside of our house! ;D

Wow, not exactly the responses I was looking for but what-the-hay.
Right now there are mainly weeds in the flower boxes. I don't bag leaves, ever. I have a big bad mulching mover and I just run over the damn things and shred em.
The bike is actually geared a little too hig for XC right now. It's running a 40x32. I'm gonna drop the granny to a 36 and may run an 11-34 spread on the rear. The thing climbs great if you can push the rign. The rear shock is a little on the plush side so it's sort of like pedaling a sofa but if it doesn't kill ya ...

I've been running Highroller ST's and love them. The Super Tacky compound is unreal, the tires hook up real well, especially on off camber stuff. The Minions are also pretty nice, but the compound is super soft and they tend to wear out quickly. I've also been using the Hookworms for park riding and they are hands down the best tires for street or skatepark riding...
Couch, nice bike. I have a very similiar rig and ride it in Lynn quite a bit during the racing season. I run a 34 up front and run an 12/34 in the rear, which works great for trail riding. I also run the 34 for racing. I find it works perfect for Sunday River and courses that aren't too pedally (on wide open courses and fire roads you'll wish for a little more...)

It's a bicycle and has pedals so I'll probably use it for just about any/every thing. Yep, there is no written law that states a DH bike can only be ridden downhill.

Right on Bro. I pedalled my Kona Stinky 9 up some trails in Woosta Sat. I rode thing up hill all the way to the top of woosta and back down again and back up. I can pedal the thing, and it's now officially my urban/trail/downhill/uphill bike. Right on brother. Knuckle

Yo couch, where the hell do you get all the cash for all those bikes? Can I get a job working with you? I'll even rake up those leaves by your bike. Who's going to clean up those leaves? When are you going to rake them? Your bike should not be subjected to that horribly dirty patio. So how many bikes you got? I think you should do your own thread posting all your bikes and all your conglomeration of parts. Amazing. I wish my wife would let me buy some more bikes. Knuckle.

Funny, we were just thinking about hiring someone to rake the leaves that I never took care of last fall ;)
Just a normal over-paid hi-tech slob like the rest. MrsCouch is in the same boat so we are doubly lucky. No kids to suck the money and life out of us either and we live pretty modestly compared to our peers (i.e small house vs. McMansion and Toyota's vs. BMW/Audi/<euro-trash-POS-du-jour>). All that equals loads of discressionary cabbage while still saving roughly one take-home paycheck.
Yee-ha!

I just got back from the true, maiden voyage on the M1. Yea, I know, I've had the bike for months, but given the miserable winter we had (and are supposed to get more of this afternoon) I never really got it offroad.
So, at lunch today, prior to the impending storm, and given that last night's well below freezing temps and firmed everything up, PK and I went a did a local XC ride.
The bike is great, it pedals awesome, but man am I fat and out of shape. It nearly killed me and it wasn't all the bike, that's for sure. The only real beef is that you can't get the saddle high enough. I suppose thats why it's called a DH bike and not an XC though. Had the traction been better (2.7" Maxxis Mobsters at 60 psi in the snow just don't hook) or had I been able to sit and grind, I think I could have gotten up most of the climbs. As it was I spun out on a bunch of them. Oh yea, flat pedals are a trip too. Definately a different climbing method required.
On the few drops the bike was sweet. The 9" in the rear and 7" in the front were enough to make light of the biggest stuff I hit.
So, the goal for the summer is now to get in shape so I can handle an XC ride on the beast. We'll see ;)

DONT DO IT MAN. It will look absurd. All you need is leg presses and situps and you'll be all set man. You can pedal that thing. I pedalled my Stinky9 around the trails near my house all day this weekend and it's all hills where I live. Yeah it sucks, but who cares
just think about how good your legs are going to be; ride that thing for a couple months, bust your butt on it, then hop on an xc rig. You'll be like frign flash gordon. Knuckle

Yea, I was actually thinking a 150mm stem and some bar ends would help. I'm try to find a 425mm Syncros post to fit as well. The 350mm isn't long enough ;)
Does Avalanche make a lockout unit for the rear shocks?
I'm just glad PK was tired today at lunch and didn't want to hammer. I'm pretty sure my head would have exploded.

I'd love to see PK on a DH bike or any bike that weights over 36 lbs (and isn't a Tandem). Just think of all the dumb things we could make him try....

Definately! I did discover the key to getting PK's nerve up a bit. It is (big surprise) beer. Typically he is a self-proclaimed shrunken-pansy when it comes to drops and such. On the Halloween debauchery ride we did, after a 6 pack of suds he was dropping a loading dock.
I'll do my best to get him out for a ride on a FAT bike. I took him to Lynn once for a XC-FR ride (fast ride that hit most of the good stuff) and he cried for a week after ;)
