I just got back from Tyler Mills in Wallingford Ct and although it's a cool trail system there are local kids that are trashing the trails with what else-Quads.If anyone see's somebody in there with Quads tell them to GET OUT!They do not belong there are are ruining some very cool singletrack, mowing down trees and creating 'go arounds' were they can't fit through the trees.I think they all should be confronted and signs be posted until they get the message. In the meantime we need to roll boulders back into the stonewall crossings to limit access and do everything possible to make it difficult for them.

If they are alowed in there. (quads) Then you really can't say anything to them. Just like the hunters and the horses with the big piles of sh!t .They all have a right to be out there.
But if its posted that atv's are not allowed. Then by all means give hell and let the local ranger know. Yes we have a small problem in Dracut S.F.with ATV'S ,But I haven't seen as many this year as in the past.(paintballers seem to be the biggest problem.only because they don't clean up their mess)
Remember shotgun season opens Monday .If their is hunting in ur favorite spot, stay out of there Monday and Tuesday anywho..Most accidents happen in the first 2 days
Steve you are from around these here parts???????(Dracut)

As much as have seen first hand what quads can do to a trail, I can't help but see the huge similarity between what hikers are trying to do regarding banning bikes, and what you guys are talking about regarding banning quads. Sometimes it helps to see the problem from the other side of the fence, and right now, thats the side you're on. You wanna yell at illegal quads, abut do you get mad when hikers yell at you for illegal mountain biking? I'm not arguing FOR Quads, and I'm sure not arguing AGAINST bikes but you do see what I'm saying right?
Note: The far east side of the fells was getting pretty severely ravished by quads and dirt bikes in the mid 90's. They would cut new trails everywhere through solid brush. Then they faded out and now you barely see a motor vehicle in those woods, and all by themselves, with no help from the MDC, you an now barely even tell there was ever a quad in there. Forest Grow. Plus FYI I plan on buying a Honda SportTrax 250 soon as I get the money. It will be my first motorized toy (not counting my truck).

Way to go Lukewarm. I've been riding and yelling at quad riders at Tyler Mill for quite some time. The level of this illegal riding has definately cut down, so keep up the good work, it has a demonstrable effect.
Actually, I found yelling doesn't work so well. It tends just to get you all p-d off. I try the nice guy approach now and it seems to go over better. I think if you're nasty, its easy for the quad riders to discount what you say. If you are cool, they'll think "geez, that cool guy doesn't think illegally riding a quad and ripping up crap and running over people is so hot...maybe I should go somewhere else."
Most of the illegal riders have live on property that abuts Tyler Mill (Celestial Terrace and Burning Tree Lane, to name a few streets where the offenders reside). They kind of have an "entitlement" philosphy about riding quads in their back yard. But just keep kindly reminding them it is illegal. They'll get the message. Who knows, maybe some day, they'll even get a mountainbike.
