LBS any good ones out there?

So i'm looking to but a set of Avid Mechanicals and a set of disc wheels. Why is it that all the local bike stores are quoting me anywhere from 200-250 on the avids when i can get them for 160 on-line. i want to do business with my local stores, but when they're charging $100 more than pricepoint on th brakes, how can i justify it...also, wheelsets ae way overpriced, i had one offer me a deore disc, sun wheelset for $220, i can get a sweet handbuilt set of xt/ any rim for less than that...anyone know of any good lbs out there that will get close to these prices? i want to support te local store, but i can't justify it now...anyone else have this problem...i mean 220 for deore hubs?

LBS are a trial and error process. Keep visiting new ones until you find one where there are competent mechanics and reasonable prices. You are paying $ 50 more by buying Avids at the LBS because you have an additional company involved in the process and more importantly you will receive cust. service afterwards. $200 for Avids installed with all parts is a good price. Especially if it includes cables and levers. (The kits from the online stores do not include cables) Do you have the tools / facilities / knowledge to install the discs yourself ? If so, check out:

They did have Hayes mech. disks for $ 100 a little while ago too.
