View Full Version : Moonlight Rides?

The moon was super bright last night and the night before as well. Just wondering if anyone did any moonlight riding over the last two evenings? It was a beautiful night last night.

I don't have lights yet, but that was all I could think about last night while sitting through a 4-hour long UConn Family Business Program Awards Dinner! In my next life I'm going to come back as a consultant to advise Academics on how to run an event. Too many boring speakers!!

And to top the event off....I returned to my minivan only to find a rear flat tire! Replacing that is going to eat into my quest for a FS rig! >:(

I hope some of you were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful evening last night. Or were most of you inside watching the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show!? ;D

No evening ride for us last night. We went to see Harry Potter Part Deux.

We keep talking about getting lights. Maybe next year.

Harry is great! I could get into a Nimbus 2000! How was the flick? Have you read the books?

A popsicle stick is a great tools for helping toe in your brakes.

I'd love to do a night time group ride.........will have to be next year for me too. How much does a decent light set-up cost? I've seen some that go for $300 and up......but there must be a less expensive alternative that gives great bang for the buck!

You are indeed a romantic. Perhaps you could let BG in on some of your moves. I don't think he heeded my advice.

Proper seat height is key for an enjoyable and injury free ride, especially for XC epics. Adjustments will vary depending on terrain and riding style but as it relates to knee pain...the following is guideline.

Front of knee hurts = your seat maybe too low or too far forward.
Back of knee hurts = seat too high and you are overextending the leg

WE DID GET OUT LAST NITE WITH THE DOGS I USE CYGOLITES THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE $60-99 MOST HAVE 2 BEAMS YOU GET ABOUT 2HOURS OF BURN TIME AND ARE JUST A LITTLE LESS BRIGHT THAN NITERIDERS BUT A THEY ARE VERY GOOD FOR 1/5 THE PRICE. THE BIGGEST DRAWBACK IS THEY NEED 12-15 HOURS RECHARGE TIME.THEY ARE GOOD FOR NITERIDES BUT WOULDNT RECCOMEND FOR COMMUTING UNLESS YOU CARRY AN EXTRA BATTERY

Thanks NOO....I think! ;D But I've been married for many a year now and don't think I'd know what the hell to do with myself if I were a bachelor again!

BTW, who did the bachelor pick last night? I was stuck in a boring 4-hour long awards ceremony! Weird thing about it was there were Old Burnside Ten Penny Ale coasters on the table but not a pint of the fine Ale in sight! What's up with that!? Did you know that Old Burnside Brewing is actually an off-shoot of Old Burnside Ice Company.........I learned more than I cared to know about the Ice business last night.

We did have Bigelow Tea on hand though........good thing too because they won the award for CT's Family Business of the Year in the large business category.......would not have been a good thing to have been serving Lipton!

Seems as though you may have been wondering about BG and the almost "divorced" woman from the Green Mountain State too......Big Game can we get an update?

What's the best tire pressure to run over New England's rocks and roots....a lower pressure or higher pressure (to prevent pinch flats?)? ;D

The wife read the books, but I have not. HP2 was an excellent flick. Highly entertaining and quite clever.

When was the last time you checked the bolts attaching your cleats to your shoe? Make sure they haven't loosened, otherwise, clicking out may prove to be nearly impossible. I personally like to tighten the bolts a little tighter (but not too much) than the manufacturer recommends. I really don't care about marring the plastic. I'm more concerned with being able to click out so as to avoid a large disaster.

Oh...what about this weekend you ask. Well Wump and I were origanally going to Maine to visit our old buddy in Yarmouth and ride with our new buds, Todd, fatire and the rest of the Mt. A crew (I hope they don't mind that I am referring to them as buds). But our old buddy's three year old is sick so we have to postpone the trip. So I made other plans to visit the most beautiful state in land, Vermont.

Vermont huh?
Any other "kind of married" women up there?

You can prevent your cables from abraiding your frame by sticking a piece of clear contact paper over the affected spot.

More importantly, my sister-in-law did in fact slip the note to her in study hall, and it looks like, although there is no official confirmation, that there are some requited feelings.

Outstanding leverage of your resources. Often times sister-in-laws, or similiarly your best friends wife, is a perfect 'champion'.

Think in terms of a capabilities sale, in which you provide a solution (in this case yourself) to solve a business (or in this case) a social problem. Also keep in mind how your 'champion' is motivated and measured.

In this particular scenario, you are the single brother in-law. From time to time you may influence and provide an environment for which your brother to behave in a manner not in alignment with his wifes view as to what is acceptable. She may also be excluded from the said activity. She may be motivated by finding a match for you that will both curb such behavior and also provide an additional female companion or who knows...a great sister in-law. As far as measurement, your brothers wife must play nice with the family.

Let me know if I am off. This will be the last advice I offer for sometime.

*****

If you are experiencing achilles tendon pain from riding, you may be pedaling too much on your toes. This is caused by your cleats being too far forward on your shoes (your feet not forward enough over the pedal).

Will I kiss her this weekend? I really don't know. I won't try to force anything.

But will she try to kiss me? Probably. I am very irresistable.

Good luck in VT BG!! May your Cinderalla Search (great song by the band Marillion btw!) end in success in the Green Mountain State.

Which is the better pedal for our often muddy NE riding conditions.....Time Atacs or EggBeaters?

Time ATACs are proven in the mud. Yet, I see no reason why Eggbeaters would not be as capable with mud-shedding. However, while egg beaters may save you a little weight, they are harder to click into. Unless you are racing in a race where you will be clicked in the whole time, , I'd personally would prefer the ATACs even with the weight penalty. But Eggbeaters still beat the snot out of Shimano.
