View Full Version : Single Pivots versus 4-Bar FS Systems: What should I be looking for?

More questions from MMc today.

I would love to receive feedback on the pros and cons of a single pivot design versus a 4-bar design for a full suspension frame. I'm sure a single pivot design is simpler and lower maintenance, but what are the other differences in terms of performance between the two predominant FS linkage designs.

What should I be looking for when I take some FS rigs out for test rides and/or ideally demo rides?

Thanks!

Here's a pretty technical link that describes some of the differences with pictures. The important thing is to ride different styles on real trails. Try to find a shop that has trails nearby.

Thanks for the link.........pretty technical is right, but it was still helpful.

I think the key is to get out and ride different typse of FS designs to see what "feels" best to my riding style/ability.

The formula reads
L=k*(sin(a)+((r*sin(a+b)*cos(a)-h*sin(a+b)*sin(g)) / (s*cos(d)*cos(a)+h*sin(g)*cos(b)))),

Jesus thats some ******** rocket science there with da suspension. Knuckle
