Grip Shifter for the front and rapidfire for the rear derailleur?

Anyone run this type of set up? I like my rapidfire for the rear, but don't like it for the front.

Any thoughts?

I run grip shift for the rear and suntour thumbshifter for the front! Love it! Chuck that shitmano all together and go with the grips!

Now that I'm hooked on riding.....I'm going to need to get a second job to support all the upgrades, new rigs, etc. etc......but then I won't have any time to ride! :o

Why don't you just get more money from your trust fund? Or sell your house in Aspen? You're hardly there anymore, and as everyone knows, Breckenridge is the new Aspen and your condo in Breckenridge is already big enough for Hailey, Rumer, Trip, Rex, Tishie, Me and the Rossi twins. And if space is such a concern, we just won't invite so many people to your always outrageous New Years Eve bash. Too tell you the truth, I'm getting a little tired of the Hampton crowd (we'll just say your P.A. forgot to mail them...I'm sure Cali won't mind taking a hit for the team)

I have thought about gripshift for front derailleur and rapid fire for the rear, sounds like a good idea! Don't listen to all those shimano haters! They are a bunch of crusty OldSchoolers who expect to get 20+ years out of their bike components.

I work at a bike shop on Saturdays, it's a great way to save some dough, work on your bike and meet hot moms!

1. Replace your big ring w/bash guard.
2. Get rid of your granny.
3. Get rid of your front shifter.
4. Leave front derailler in place as a chain minder.
5. Get a cassette that goes to 32t or 34t.

Problem Sloved!

No need to raid the trust-fund.
No need to sell the house in Aspen.
And, you can still throw your big New Years bash w/ the Hamptons crowd included.
Just try to remember me when the invites go out. 8)

I'm still trying to figure out how I got confused with someone with considerable wealth! :o

As for working at the shop on a Saturday, that would be more difficult since I'm busy with my kids either coaching T-Ball, helping to coach soccer, or coaching hockey with them! And as for eyeing hot Moms (let alone actually meeting them) at the shop, well that could get me in a boatload of trouble with Mrs. Marin!

And I need that granny gear if I'm going to be riding Soapstone again anytime in the not too distant future!

I saw at Speedgoat.com that Norco is now spec'ing some of their bikes with a dual Shimano/Sram shifter set-up! Pretty cool if you ask me for a bike company to do something like that!

I didn't catch on to the name change.
I know funds are tight for shifters when you are trying to save up for that sweet singlespeed. 8)

I'm taking the sage advice of NOO and a couple of others and now plan to build up a FS rig, swap some parts from the Nail Trail and then convert the Nail Trail to Single Speed.

This will give me two excellent riding options. I wonder which one will win out over the other once I have two rigs?

Perhaps you can continue to give me advice as I move through this process!

I have been thinking about shifters as well. Been using rapids, which are fine. On my last ride one of the levers bent a bit and was getting stuck on the lower lever. No big deal to fix, but took me a bit to see what the problem was. I thought the spring was failing at first.

It seems to be a personal choice, but I planning to move over to the SRAM shortie grip shift and derailer setup on the next rig. Lot of guys seem happy with the switch. Seems a simpler design with less chance of breakage\failure. Quicker jump across the cassette as you crest a hill, too. Quicker than 5 clicks on a rapid I mean.

Like most things on the bikes, a personal choice. No right or wrong.
