I have a set of Magura Hydraulic Disc brakes on my Cannondale f700sx. I was curious on a couple things, first, my rear brake lever pulls down pretty far, but if pumped a little, it doesn't require as much squeazing? Is this do to lack of fluid? Actually that is the only thing. I plan on bringing it in to the shop for a long overdue tune up seeing that I just started riding it again after about a year. I just want to know so I can make sure the shop checks that out when I get the bike in.

Sounds as if your lines need to be bled. You might want to ask the guys at the shop to show you how to do it.. Same as a car ,but if you have never seen it done before you should watch and learn..

How to overhaul hydraulic discs:
*remove old brakes rotors and levers
*post for sale on MTBR and NEMBA classifieds
*find a good deal on Avid mechanical discs
*buy new brakes
*install new brakes on bike
*marvel at the ease of installation and adjustment
*go riding
;D

I will second AA's coment. I've been systematically replacing the hydros on the fleet with Avid's. They just plain work.
The Maguras are the most finicky of the lot. I have a set in the basement I'd trade for a rack of suds if anyone is interested.

Dewser,
It sounds like you may need more fluid in the line.
I think you should consider using your gift certificate from that fine LBS in North Haven.
Tim is the man when it comes to Maguras. Trials riders live and die by Maguras.

Well Gump, I actually used the gift certificate to get new knee/shin guards. But I did drop the bike off for a tune up. Its been a while so it needed it. Thanks for the info everyone.
