Fort Rock is my favorite road trip, so far. I'll have to take many more trips next season though.

Dear God, I have not even come close to riding all of those areas. I'm going to have to say that you should make a regional poll, because none of those area's are around my house.

I guess you and I need to get out more.I have only been to 3 of those places, but they were the most talked about..lol

I'd have to say Lynn Woods... but that's the only place I've been. I've tried to make a jouney hout to Nam but that's never happened. Besides race courses, the Pioneer Valley and Pedro's, I've have not hit up many other area's. I've ridden Trail of Tears and Otis a few times at the Cape. I need drive more... or stop working Sunday's and go to a few more Fun Rides on Sunday's I don't Race :-/

I really don't mind being a perceived as a self-righteous micro-managing, overly-technical, ego-centric, anal-retentive, insensitive pain-in-the-ass (because I am), so I guess I just go and say it.
See, this is the MTB Lounge/General Discussion posts here. And this poll only includes places to ride in Massachusetts. And, believe it or not, mountain biking is very popular in many, many places other than Massachusetts
Perhaps you believe Massachusetts is the center of the mountain bike universe. I don't know. Maybe it is. But you must at least admit that there are other places to ride than just Massachusetts
What I'm saying is that this poll belongs in the Mass. postings.
But I suppose you should be congratulated for actually talking about mountain biking instead of declaring, sua sponte, what movies suck (and yes, I realize I was part of the problem with at least one reply), the lack of quality programming on television, and debating how many lines of blow Knucklebuster snorts before he causticly attacks his keyboard.
And perhaps I should be congratualted for writing such a wonderful reply.
Big Game thanks you very much.

Bump..lol
I have to agree with the Big Game. And also on another note when you reply to something you should actually say something. Agree with what is being posted. Disagree with what is being posted. But, don't just SPAM us with dumb, unrelatable, one word answers with cryptic chat room abbreviations. I hate to single you out EVIL but, what the hell is "Bump . . .lol." supposed to mean?? Also, starting a forum and then posting the first answer to your own question/post is lame. It's not about collecting stars here people it's about trying to have a somewhat lucid exchange of ideas. I know the topics can morph within a posting, hell, that's whats happening here with this one, and that's O.K. but, try to elaborate a little more. ;)

ROFLMAO! (Rolling On Floor, Laughing My Ass Off)
"bump" is not any kind of chat-speak, but is message board speak. It means that he wanted this thread to be at the top of the page so more people would see and read and respond to it. So he "bumped" it up to the top, by posting to it.
There is no cryptic meaning, it is no code word, it's just impatience. ;)

gungywump .If you took the time to read my first reply. It said that "I am sure I left out someones favorite place". The purpose of that was to maybe get someone to add to my list.. For I have not ridden everywhere and or my not have heard of another great place to ride..
Big game. Well I know that Ma(2 were N.H.). is not the center of the universe,But I made the list of them from what I see on this board. These places just happend to be the most talked about places. The topic is certainly alot better than solid gold bikes. The real problem here is apparently Bigame and gungywump don't have enough work to do .So they come here and bust balls.. ;D

Big Game - I rarely bike on group rides and ONLY talking about biking. Nor have I been on a forum that ONLY discusses the sites subject. If you think it's heresy to discuss something besides biking, then that's your believe, but I find it hard to imagine it's everyones opinion. Afterall I am not the first person to make a non-cycling related post. This is the "GENERAL board." Sorry if our definitions of general differ.

I am not a big fan of Massachusetts, well anything below 43 longitude for that matter. In fact you could call me a Mass Basher. Why the hell are people from Mass such horrible drivers! Are you taught to invoke road rage in drivers ED classes? And those accents, my God, or should I say my Gwaaad! Well now that I've made some new friends, I'll address the M******* Pole.
I would pick VIETNAM on the list. For those of you who haven't checked this place out, DO IT! It's Gnarly! It is however not my "real" favorite place to ride, it's not on the list!
Big game you did not answer the question, you managed type 189 words, and still did not tell us your favorite place to ride in Mass. Just answer the damn question with the choices given! Try to stay inbounds, focus you can do it!

(Note how I wrote Conn., as there is a New Haven, Vt and I don't want any of them Green Mountain Boys and Girls to feel that I'm not thinking about them.) I'm kind of reluctant to share it, as I don't want it to become too popular. But I figured, who am I to deny anyone from experiencing moutain biking at its finest.
The directions from Mass. are simple. Take I-90 west until you run out of road. You can't miss it, I swear.

Did I say West Woods? I meant West Rock, in New Haven, Conn.
Another good place to go is Tyler Mill in Wallingford. From From Boston Take I-80 west to I-84 west to 91 south. Off exit 14. A left at the end of the ramp. Park at Veterans' Park a 1/2 mile down on your right. Wes
West Woods used to be mediorce, at best (but never really worth the trip) until most of the trails were shut down. I think that there's only like 1.5 miles of actual trails open now. And all that's left open is either a massive hike-a-bike or a carpenter's dream.
If you're looking for big drops, you can't beat Trumbull. For stunts, Valley Falls in Bolton.

At Great Brook in the twilight i rode the trail chasing 3 dear.
On a chilly Fall day i rode on the beach in Reid State park in Maine, and hopped along the rocks beside the crashing surf.
I built boardwalks along the Nanamuckamuck, ascended the road to Cathedral Ledge in NH, descended at the highest speed i have ever ridden, then rode the new bridges and trails for 5 hours the next day, and cooled off in the clear mountain waters.
On top of a hill in a park in North Andover , i observed the solstice, riding straight into the setting sun.
All about me the trees were falling as a thunderstorm raged through Harold Parker, pelted by hail and soaked to the skin, when the sun came out i rode myself dry.
I got caught without a tube at the Blue Hills bike day, but a member helped me out
I went over the bars in Lynn, to the cheers of those standing by
At Bear Brook, I cracked my frame
And I met new friends at the Soap in Conn.
The trails of Wamputuck go on forever, and the view from the edge of the Dogtown quarry is something to behold.
I can't wait to see what next year brings
Where is the best trail? For me its the one right under my wheels.

It sometimes seems to me like it's the GBMBA (greater Boston mountain bike association). ::) (wink. wink.) ;) Those of you in Ct should be happy to have enough chapter members to have a fall festival.
Seriously, there's great riding in the greater Boston area. I had a great ride at Upton, and look forward to hitting some of the other places.
Btw: If it wasn't for all those Mass liscense plates (mine says NY ) parked at Mt Aggie and everywhere else all the way to Arcadia, there would be lots of unemployed people in the state of Maine. :-\

Toddski, can you believe this?
I think Steve is essentially calling you a bum, dependant on the charity of Bay Staters who are generous enough to spread large amounts of cash on scum like you when they graciously visit vacationland. Well, Todd, I certainly don't think you need a handout (We in Connecitcut are a little bit more enlightened than our immediate neighbors to our north and west).
Wow Todd, you sure are lucky for the thoughtful citizens of Massachusetts. Without them, I suppose you'd just be enjoying Maine in its pristine beauty without the harrassment of yuppy scum, who think that they are doing you a favor by causing traffic jams on the weekends (because they don't know how to drive), taking all the best lobsters (which they don't even finish..they are so wasteful), buying houses which they aren't even in for a month each year (driving up housing prices throughout downeast Maine) and lastly, mountainbiking on trails designed for rugged individuals like yourself, rather than charlatans who use environmental activism as a guise to cover up the truth that in all actuality, they are nothing more than corporate drones.

Thanks Big Game, I could haven't said it better! Have I every mentioned how much I love Connecticut? It's like NewYork, but different, you've got ummmm...pizza, and LimeRock right, I used to race BMX there, you know I really have no clue what Connecticut is like. I don't see allot of CT plates in the summer. Its probally because 95north is so jammed packed and gridlocked with Mass plates!
In all fairness, Quebec sucks too! They speak horrible English. I've been passed on the right on a single lane road, Twice! I put up with Quebecians, because they often get naked on public beaches, the Girls that is!
I really love Vermont too!

Normally I wouldn't even respond to such mindless drivel as this quote. However, when something is turned completely around and makes me look like an ******* I will set the record straight.
I don't insult people on a regular basis, (calling someone a bum) especially ones that I don't know. I have a perfect understanding of the resentment that people in Maine have towards Mass. It goes all the way back to when Maine was Mass. Currently places like York county that used to be nothing but atv trails are now becoming home to $300,000 plus homes. People who have lived in costal villages as lobsterman / fisherman all their lives can't even afford to live in towns that their families have been in for generations anymore because people "from away" are coming in and buying all of the best property for more money than they can themselves. My point was that in spite of all the things that are going on, the only bright spot of I95 being jammed every friday is all of the $$$ that people are spending in the communities.

I like steve's point, "When Maine was Mass." Well before Mass was Mass it was Native American. When will the colonization end?!
300,000 dollar homes, that are being built on top of old ATV trails? Is that a good thing? Those are also mountainbike trails, which also happen to be 350year old Colonial trails. "New Residents" are building these SECOND homes, on top of our trails! MY taxes are going up and the school system is overcrowded. Thanks Mass!
GUMP: Single Speed work fine if you stick to main trails, but I think you'd have more fun with gears. I run 32:18 and I still have problems with the steep climbs and tight technical stuff, which is where we are taking you and hopefully breaking Big Game. Fort Rock in Exeter is the choice spot for single speed riding.

Stay away. There's nothing for you there. Most of the trails are blocked off, and if somehow you do manage to sneak onto one, you'll find they don't go anywhere (Although they look real nice and smell real pretty). Todd, you'll be lost, wandering your life away, with nothing to show for it, except a tired bike and a broken heart.
But some fools do attempt to sneak in, where wise men know better than to tread.
