I saw something at INTERBIKE that I thought was cool.
It's a two speed bottom bracket/crank that replaces your front chainrings and derailer and weighs about the same. It's way sano and would be perfect for a singlespeed or with a Nexus rear hub.
Check it out at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/schlumpf.html

Has anyone tried this?

I have seen this product a short time ago and it is very slick. However, the cost is mucho expensive. What is the point of using it on a ----SINGLE SPEED. You would be better off using a 3-4-5 or 7 speed shimano or sachs hub and your favorite cranks so when one arm blows out you can get a new one easily and cheaply.
I can see commuters and others riding in bad weather using it for it's ease of shifting under loads. Just my opinion.
