Hey! I justed started a highschool biking club/team too. I found that a very helpful thing to have is a well designed information flyer about the club talking about what the club will do, where, and try to plan some events. Maybe show up at some trail work days. Do you want to have a practice race against my team in the spring???

Our local high school has a very active club that rides after school in the fall and spring. Some of the kids race on their own (CT NORBA series) and the club enters a couple of high school races each year.

Although the club is sanctioned by the high school (waivers, drug and alcohol policy, etc.), it is not considered a varsity sport and therefore does not receive school funding. However, they do receive some funding from a parents' group that helps out the sports teams and other extra-curricular activities. The club only survives because of the tireless efforts of two teachers.

There is a New England high school team race every September in Ascutney, VT, held in conjunction with the Vermont 50 Miler. Go to http://www.vermont50.com/ for more info. Look for the high school race links.

Kimball Union Academy in NH holds some high school races. I know they have one coming up on November 3rd, but I don't have any other info. (Try a web search for the school and call them).

There is a modest effort to try to organize a high school race or series here in CT. Not sure if it is going anywhere.

(Dave, if you want to contact one of our high school club moderators, send me a private email and I'll try to connect you).

The other problem is there are not many high schoolers that bike. I tired to start a club a few years ago (Hampshire Regional) however I realized there was only one other cyclist out of 850 students (who has now quit for spending his money on alcohol and other stereotypical extra-curricular activities). I think you'll find it hard to find other schools that possess enough cyclists to compete against.

This message is for all high school coach or anyone interested to see our kids be more active. After following this tread we have decided to open one 17 years old or younger class relay to do our Mountian bike section next july.Teams of two will be allowed to compete in the jay Mountian bike race. Our web page is not up and running yet for the coming season but we will price the race at 25 dollars per kid or 50 dollars for the team.We realise that this is a major undertaking for any youngster but I firmly believe that this will give them a unbelievable racing experience. We have a great Medical staff at the race and we will supervise extra carefully our youngster to make sure that they are healthy and capable to finish

I am not sure how to advertise this to high school team but if anyone out there is interested to help promoting this to school I would appreciate either an e-mail list or school to advertise to.

tks
