???
My chain keeps slipping from middle chainring to granny gear. Usually happens when I hit large bump (log, rock, etc.) It is a pain in the ass and frustrating esp. when I am climbing.
I just put on new chain and replaced worn cassette.
Any clues as to cause and what I can do to alleviate this annoying occurence.
I am riding Sugar 3 full suspension bike, mostly cross country style riding.
Thanks for any help.....

Ahh...the mystery of the granny slip. I've experenced it and here are few possible reasons:
1. Too many links in your chain.
2. A bad chain line.
3. The lack of trim ability with Shimano shifters (which is a big advantage with grip shift).
4. Missing spacers between middle ring and granny.
5. Worn or bent rings (remember, when replacing your cassette, replace your rings too. They do wear. If they are aliminum they wear very quickly. And generally, you can't just replace one part of your drive train and not expect problems. Replace the whole thing...cassette, chain, rings)
6. Loose spider.
7. Loose cranks.
That is all I can think of. And if you infact didn't replace your rings, my gut suspicion is that the cause is #5.
Good luck.

One more thing to check,
If its happening when the suspension is compressed by a large hit. Inspect the location of the front derailiur cage with the suspension fully compressed. Mine was too close to the chain stay and was shifting when impacted.
good luck

I think Big Game gave you some excellent advice, go though the list, one of them will fix the problem. I'm surprised however, he didn't suggest the new component company called, 24karat "gold parts shift like a dream."
