View Full Version : Arcadia Intermediate Ride 10/20
October 16th, 2002, 12:43 PM
If anyone is interested I'm doing an easy pace ride this Sunday 10/20 at 9am from the ledges parking lot. Approximately 2 hours or so. Good chance to check out west side of Arcadia. A couple of good hills and a bit technical here and there but nothing too bad. Besides we wait at all intersections. MUST WEAR MINIMUM 200 SQ. INCHES OF ORANGE!! All are welcome.
Directions: Take Rt. 165 west going past the white chuch and the main parking lot. Keep going and then turn right onto Escoheag Hill Road. Follow about a mile or so and take right onto dirt road at top of short hill. This is other end of Austin Farm Road. There is a small building there also. Just past the building take another right and follow to parking lot at end.
If you are planning on riding please post back so I know who is coming. Thanks.

Is the orange clothing an actual law or safety issue???
I'm all about safety but has a Mtn. biker ever actually been shot at? :'(

I don't particularly like riding where I know there are people with guns shooting things that move.

Where's your fun and adventure? When I'm not being shot at by hunters on one of my favorite trails I'm cruise'n the streets of the East LA....
:D
The flying bullets just add to my cardio training!

Yes, the orange requirement is a DEM regulation that effects all users of the state management areas.
And to set the record straight small game season which starts this Saturday is a fairly safe time to ride in the woods. Deer season which doesn't start until next month is another story. As someone who has ridden in Arcadia for going on almost 15 years I have never had a problem with hunting season in general and small game season specifically.
As someone involved with risk management professionally I would suggest that they are many other things we do in our normal day to day lives (driving comes to mind) that are inherently more dangerous than riding (or anything else for that matter) in the woods this time of year. I, however, would expect that to be a personal decision that everyone has to make on their own. You can always ride in Connecticut on Sundays since they don't permit hunting on that day all season. Hope this helps.

Yea it is the law. You can get orange vest @Walmart for $5.00. Weekends have been known to bring out some not to patience hunting. I have been riding Arcadia for 7 years and never been shoot at. Making noise does help to alert all to your riding.
