The Newington, CT Krispy Kreme opened this week. Traffic around there is a mess. ::) There is consistently a 1/2 mile backup onto the Berlin Turnpike for the the drive-thru, and cops are outside directing traffic (seems fitting for a DONUT shop). Amazing what a frickin' donut shop can do to an area.
No, I have not tried one yet. Can't get near the building! As a side note, you should have seen the fatties walking out of there with BOXES of donuts! ;D

;D Hello: Not to add an insult to your otherwise great post, however, I must ask Why did you add fatties coming out of the donut shop? I myself am 125 lbs and 5 ft 2 inches. I work out aprox 5 times per week and am 40 years old. I might add, I try extremity hard to stay in shape. That is just me and the way I choose to live my life! I do not however, condone Anyone making fun of obese people. It is rude! Would you say racist names if you saw a Hispanic or black person, etc., coming out of a donut shop? I would say not. If you did, you probably would have about 110 percent of people knocking down your door! With good reason! Then why say fatty? Just because someone is obese, is no reason to polk fun at them. Many obese people are depressed/extremily low self esteem that is why they look the way they do.They don't have willpower!! They need encouragement and teaching!!!!! not ridicule. Food is a comfort to an otherwise cruel world! My mother weighed in at 350 lbs. She was an extremely wonderful person. I miss her so much. I spent most of my childhood watching her ridiculed and made a fool out of by many people. She never drove a car, she never worked and never had any type of social life I can remember. Her life revolved around her children, faith in God and animals. She had no self esteem. Even my father who was smaller than I, made a complete fool out of her and shot down any dreams she ever had! Every day, she would cook dinner for my father. He would leave for work at 2pm. After he left, she would lay in bed and cry for most of the evening. She had no skills for job employment so she just was a housewife and mother. She ate for comfort. She did not drink or smoke. Food was her outlet. I see why I am such an animal advocate. My mother loved animals. They love you for who you are and do not pass judgment. They are appreciative for the love and nothing else!!!!!! She passed away of a massive heart attack at at 65. How I wish she would have loved to exercise like I do. I have taught my children nutrition and exercise. Something my mother never had. She taught me the meaning of MANKIND! Something you need to definitely think about! Just because we are small, does not give us the upper hand and make us any better than "Fatties" Coming out of donut shops!! Please re think you thoughts! Just because FATTIES eat donuts does not make them any less of a person than YOU or I!!!!!!! Now I feel better. Thanks,

My whole view on those peopl outside Krispy Kreme is that they are a bunch of TOOLS!!!!! If you want a hot donut, get your D&D bring it home and microwave it! I've tried the donuts and I am not impress. Someone told me it was because it wasn't hot. Well who gives a damn! If I want a hot donut, I will use a microwave! Just give me my coffee and honey glaze and let me get on my way!!!! Why there was a line all the way down the Berlin Turnpike, I don't know! IF this people were in the navy, you could sell them a screen door for a submarine! I DON'T care how good a donut is, it isn't worth wasting your day in a line a mile long! The people are the same people that drink starbucks coffee because of the name! My opinion Starbucks coffee tastes burnt! But then there are those that like burnt coffee so please drink up!
Ok, I am done :-D Just remember, think twice before you spend a saturday in a line just to get a warm deep fried ring of dough.

I have to disagree and say that Krispy Kreme makes some excellent Donuts. I wouldn't stand in line all day for one, but when I am passing by one of their stores I tend to grab one (though I wouldn't do that if I passed a Krispy Kreme more than a few times a year).

Ginger,
Lighten up some, for god's sake. The "fatties" comment was obviously made in jest. Nobody ever said they aren't people. Jeesh!
Yet, it's hard to feel sorry for obese people walking out of a donut shop with boxes of donuts. These people (yes, they are indeed people... big people) neglect their own health and contribute as much as smokers do, if not more so, to the poor health in general of Americans and thus are a significant reason why you or your employer and I pay such exorbitant amounts of health insurance. You wanted to make an issue about a simple, flip comment. Perhaps your issue should be with too many donut shops and fast food joints and not enough health food stores and restaurants, making it ironically more expensive for those of us who DO care about what we eat because the demand for donuts is far greater than that for protein bars.

Hub and I ventured across the street to KK Saturday @ 5am to see what the hype was about (we live 1 mile away).
They were pretty good - and we're not donut people. I mean I wouldn't do that again - but it was an experience.
Then we went home and back to sleep.
Try em if you want. Don't if you don't want to.
But lighten up people. It's just a donut.

It is interesting the irony of folks offering their advice of "lighten up" in a thread about chowing donuts!
And regarding "fatties"...I'm with you Cheese-Man. I wish I got to keep all the money I earn, jeeesh! All these folks, whether they be butt-heads, "horizontally challenged" (is that pc enough?), or have any other malidy of choice (yes choice), really get me steamed. There is way too freakin much victim mentality. Get a therapist, get on with life and please, get the hell out of my wallet!!!!! >:(
I do agree however that making fun of large individuals is wrong. It is the last socially accepted form of bigotry, and that is sad. I struggle with it because I had a weight problem and overcame it with, yup, you guessed it, diet and exercise. Now I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and don't care. I also ride my bike, run, climb, lift weights, etc almost every day. Maybe that is why this topic get's me all fired up, cause I been there.
Protien bars taste like crap, donuts provide much more enjoyment then those logs of poop. You know what would be great is instead of jelly, a GU filled donut! Imagine, yummy and prevents bonking!! Just add water...

::) Christ, Ginger, lighten up and put the PC stick away. Read Mr Cheez's post a couple of posts up. He nailed it.
Here's a good read for you: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/usatoday/20021009/ts_usatoday/4518757&e=2
I have little sympathy for a 400 pound hoss who walks out of a donut shop with four dozen donuts. And I don't think that makes me a racist.
For the record, the KK donut was ok, nothing special (I am MtnBikerChk's hubby). The fruit muffin I had at Lyman Orchard's yesterday was much better. :)

You ever see that Budweiser commercial with the clydesdales playing football? I didn't know horses could do that.

Haven't caught that commerical yet. But during my 'sloth' weekend (see post under New England Weather...) I saw the American Express commercial with Seinfeld MTB'ing down Mount Vesuvius...check it out at http://www.americanexpress.digisle.tv/spot15/wm100.html - click on Bike.
Pretty sure he violates NEMBA's policy regarding illegal trail use...

The Lance commercial is great. His one where he is powering the entire ESPN headquarters on an exercize bike is pretty funny as well. 8)

I wouldn't wait in line for a KK donut but confess to eating them for breakfast every day while recently in Vegas. Stick to the original ones though, the maple frosted and chocolate frosted aren't as good as Dunkin Donuts!
