Ya know...
I just joined this Nemba deal last week, and got my first issue of Single Tracks. I was impressed by the number of women riding and making Nemba happen.

I have only seen a couple women in my long 2 year history of MB riding, but I see there are plenty and they ride well. Very cool. ;)

So this is just my lil thumbs up to "Girls on Mountain Bikes".

We sure are out there! I too am new to Nemba and mountain biking and sometimes it does seem like there aren't very many women on the trails but if you read the history of Nemba in Singletracks, it seems like women were really instrumental getting Nemba started in the early days.

Also I'm sure you know that there are many accomplished female pros out there -- I recently read an amazing story about a Canadian racer (Genevieve Jeanson, age 20) who broke the woman's record in the Mt. Washington Auto Road Hill Climb. A 4727 ft climb with a 12% grade. Her overall time was the third best time of the day -- in other words if she had been in the men's race, she would have come in third.

See you on the trails.

I always ride with at least one woman in the group. The most I've ever ridden with was five, but usually I ride with two girls and one guy.

Maybe it's just Connecticut or the fact that I am married, but I see women on the trails on just about every ride. As of matter of fact, it was my wife that introduced me to MTB. :)

This is NOT my wife, but just felt like adding the pic. ;D

My experience is the same Baboon. I'm always riding with chicks here in Conn.

And they kick a$$.

On the same topic, you would think that mountainbiking would be a great way to pick up chicks. Perhaps, for some, but for me, my demands are probably too high: I have yet to meet a single mtb chick who digs a guy with a big nose and a potty mouth.

Well, There's still the laudro-mat (which actually, doesn't work for me either... I still didn't go to my mommy and daddy's house to do laundry)

I used to see more women on the trails a few years ago... especially when school was in session (maybe Smith and UMASS are full of female cyclists? ) but over the past two years I have no seen nearly as many. Maybe it's the more roading I do...

But still, at Pedro's even... it seems to be 1 female for every 10-15 guys there.

Maybe this is why we've been seeing fewer chicks out there

Oh brother! ;D

And us guys wonder why the women don't find us funny and charming.... ::)

Hey, don't disrespect the C.H.U.D. Women dig C.H.U.D. actors. I mean, look at daniel Stern. Bushwacked, Celtic Pride, Home Alone? He's making money thanks to C.H.U.D. And look at Brad Pitt, if it were not for C.H.U.D. I'm sure he would be bagging at Stop and Shop right now.

The chicks are out there and they rip!! Again, maybe it is CT, but I met my wife at Pig Iron in Glastonbury almost 10 years ago. Our first date was on the trail and the rest, as they say, is history.

This is very strange. In this string there are a few guys asking where all the mtb chicks are, while there is a chick looking for a ride from the boston area to the Blue Hills Bike day on sunday in another string. There have been no replies to her request. I have but one question...

Gentlemen, does the sun shine if you take your head out of your butt?

Haven't any of you heard of the WOMBATs? A women's only group. I've ridden with them a couple of times when invited, but there are certain man-haters amongst them (K.L.) that you have to watch out for. Others are better riders than most of the men I've ridden with.

Warning: superficial male statement... not all of them look good in lycra.

I am only sixteen but have been mountain biking since i was 11 (at first i thought it was just riding in the woods, but since it has a name......). Over those short five years I have seen very few females riding. I primarily ride in the Lynn Woods so maybe that's why (those of u in Mass know what im talkin about) but still, I think that we need way more women in the sport.
Hey guys maybe your wives would start to understand why you NEED to go for a ride once a week if they started the sport too.
Anyway to the women in the sport: more power to you and keep riding!!!!!!!!!
to those just reading this: get off your a**es and start riding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bingo JT.

Today on the Blackstone Valley Nemba epic there was a few gals and they really rode well. Good conversation too, plenty laughs. Better than the usual grunts and groans of a guys only ride. 8)

We are out there. We may not be built like Zog's anime fantasy chick, but some of us DO look good in spandex....

Actually, my boyfriend (a cat.3 roadie and darn good cross racer) got me into riding. I chose a mountain bike since I'm short (13" frame) and I like riding in parks rather than on the road. I'm not fond of Boston-area drivers....
