View Full Version : Looking for Night Riders at Callahan and Stow Woods

I'm looking for riders to do some night riding two or three nights a week. But, because of my schedule (an hour commute to & from Boston, and two kids under 5), I really can't venture much further than Callahan State Park or Stow Woods. I'm an intermediate/experienced rider but will ride w/ anyone willing.
Lets Ride!!! :D

Do you ride into winter? I'm probably not going to have much time for evening rides until after Halloween.
After that, I'd be up for a weekly ride through that neck of the woods until the snow gets too deep.
What time do you usually head out?

Hey Bryan,
I'm game for that.
I live in Marlboro and have the 2 young kids thing going too.
Man, it keeps ya busy, huh?
Just order my light on Friday, so I expect it by mid week.
Got me one of those Cabeza Logic deals.
What's up this Thursday night (9/19) for ya?

Anyway, got my light and had a great night ride in Callahan last night. Joined a group of night riders out there too.
Much Fun.

Yeah!! I'm home! :D
I was on vacation and never got a chance to check the board.
So, yeah lets go riding!! I haven't gotten a light yet tho. I had some sticker shock over the prices. But I guess i'll have to suck it up! I'm going to Belmont Wheelworks today maybe I'll pick one up then.
What nights are good for you guys, and how late do you want to get started? I'm think after 8pm, unless thats to late.

::)
Hey! I live in Hopkinton and I am getting a little weirded out by riding in the woods at night alone with nothing but my lite and a cell phone. Was wondering if I could join up. How far away is Callahan? Where is it exactly? What's the ride like. I am an intermediate/expert that has been out of commission for some time so I'm soft and doughy. Really wanna get back into it but need a group to kick me into shape...

Yeah! I'm free Wed night.
Hopkinride, take rt85 to Marlborough and turn right onto Acre Bridge Rd. Go to the end and turn right onto Farm Rd. Then go another a mile or two and turn right onto Broadmeadow Rd (if you see the marlborough airport on your right, you've gone too far). Broadmeadow will curve into Parmenter Rd, do not take Parmenter, keep going straight onto the dirt road. After the open field on your left turn into the parking lot on your left, its only about 200yrds or so from Parmenter Rd.
If you come to a white house you went to far.
I'll be there at 8p, or shortly there after. See you all there!

Hey Guys,
I'm on the edge of bailing on ya, to join a NEMBA ride in Franklin tonight.
Are you both for sure going tonight?
If so I'll join ya.
If not I'll reschedule with ya soon.
If I don't hear from ya, I be doing the Franklin ride.
Thanks

I didn't read through all of the previous messages but I would be interested in night rides in the areas listed. I live in Harvard but work in Billerica so Great Brook is an option. There are a few places in Stow that can be linked with a little road riding. Delaney, Stow Woods and one place in between. Willing to ride anywhere from intermediate pace to extremely fast.

Bryan and I went out in Callahan last night.
Nice ride.
We both live in Marlboro and have busy family lives. Still we're talking about riding a couple nights a week, but have to start late like 8pm, which really limits us to nearby areas.
We'll post our plans next week.
Cheers

If you're interested in stow woods/the grim/great brook, I'm in. I ride w/ a guy who works in littleton ( i live in acton ), and we're trying to get out every thursday until the snow's too deep + 1 ( I need at least one 1 hour 1 mile ride in 12 inches of snow a year ).
I think we're either riding the grim or stow woods via acton next week. I'll email when I know more.

Glad to see there's more interest. It would be nice to get a good core of night riders in this area.
What time do you (Beardedweirdie) go out on thurs nights at Stow Woods. If it's not too early, I would like to join you. I really can't get out of the house until 8p. Slomojo would probably be interested as well. We went out this past tues at Callahan and had a nice ride.
BTW, Were is Delaney, the grim & great brook?

I usually go out around 5:30 or so, the guy I ride with lives up in nh, so we're constrained by that. However, I can do an 8pm ride on occasion. I am booked up for the next two weeks with travel etc..Once my schedule settle's, I'll see what we can work out - that big log in stow woods is calling my name. I'd also be up for exploring more territory south of where I live ( acton ).
The Grim is out in Ayer, we usually start out by 2A / 495, but there are many trailheads. Great Brook is in carlisle, see the NembaFest info for directions. Delaney is out by harvard / stow - iirc there's not a lot of riding out there, but I probably missed the trailheads. It's on the left if you take Harvard Road out of stow off of 117.

Great Brook Farm State Park has been mentioned in several earlier posts. As to my knowledge the park may be open at night, but the parking lots are closing at dusk.
