Ok

Apparently sometime during my ride today, the seal to the bearings on my hub snapped out and I think I lost one of the ball bearings. Is this a major major problem? Can I put the seal back on with one bearing missing? Should I clean and relube the entire hub?

Thanks

What kind of hub is it? Do you have photo?

If it is a standard hub (non-pre-pressed or sealed) with standard bearings, the best bet would probably be to take the hole thing apart, clean it, relube it and stick some new bearings in there. Be sure to check the bearing races to see if they are grooved or pitted which can happen over time. Severe grooves or pits on the hub body or cones could mean replacement.

Have fun playing in the grease!

I've had a lot of problem's with the bearing on my Hugi's (however they have never popped out). I usually just replace all the bearing (it's pretty damn cheap, labor included at Northampton Bike) and it works fine for some time.

<note>Hugi's have been known to suck, it's not the bike shop's replacement at fault ;D
